They have an expiry date. Last of the summer wine should have been euthanased years before it was. Red Dwarf, my favourite comedy of all time went off the boil after series six but it went on to about twelve. Cash cow

I watch the news and think; am I the only one who still thinks killing is wrong? Am I being quaint and old fashioned? Every religion I know of says killing is wrong but one religious group commit mass murder on another in the name of their religion. The victims say "Look at what they've done, they're animals, killing our children and babies. Let's kill their children and babies." Our species will die at its own hand and still see itself as the victim.

To the tune of "leavin' on a jet plane" by John Denver. Warning; strong language;
Got my sandbags packed I’m good to go
I’m standin’ here outside my door
The weatherman says it will soon be here
The riverbanks are breakin’ through
There’s not a lot that we can do
And now the decking’s turned into a pier
So kiss me and bail for me
Say you’ll never fail for me
pump it like you’ve never pumped before
Cause I’m livin’ on a floodplain
Don’t know when I’ll be dry again
Oh babe I hate to row
Now the living room is pissed wet through
The kitchen’s full of floating poo
The wallpaper is turning into mush
The pictures floated off the shelf
The weatherman can go fuck himself
I’m surrounded by ev’rything we’ve flushed
So kiss me and bail for me
Say you’ll never fail for me
pump it like you’ve never pumped before
Cause I’m livin’ on a floodplain
Don’t know when I’ll be dry again
Oh babe I hate to row
Now the time has come to steal a boat
My darts trophies are all afloat
My plasma screen has turned into a raft
The environment... agency
Couldn’t give a shit about me
My life is over, to them it’s all a laugh
So kiss me and bail for me
Say you’ll never fail for me
pump it like you’ve never pumped before
Cause I’m livin’ on a floodplain
Don’t know when I’ll be dry again
Oh babe I hate to row
I’m livin’ on a floodplain
Don’t know when I’ll be dry again
Oh babe I hate to row

An engineer dies . . . and goes to Hell. Dissatisfied with the level of comfort, he starts designing and building improvements. After a while, Hell has air conditioning, flush toilets and escalators. The engineer is a pretty popular guy.
One day God calls and asks Satan, "So, how's it going down there?"Satan says, "Hey things are going great. We've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and there's no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next."
God is horrified. "What? You've got an engineer? That's a mistake - he should never have gone down there! You know all engineers go to Heaven. Send him up here! "
Satan says, "No way. I like having an engineer on staff. I'm keeping him."God says, "Send him back up here or I'll sue."
"Yeah, right," Satan laughs, "and where are you going to get a lawyer?"

If you follow me, you have a sense of humour. If you're reading this, you're a reader. I’ve put this story online, free, gratis and for nothing, it's a twelve minute read. If you like it, maybe you’ll be curious enough to risk 99p for one of my short story collections. Maybe you’ll be smart enough to save some money by buying a compilation. Maybe you’ll be brave enough to buy my novel. Whatever happens, I hope you enjoy ‘Vincent'. http://aarondavid.co.uk/Vincent.html #freeread #shortstory #funny #pleaseboost
