NixOS deployment container images updated to Streams 25.8.1 and new features !

Added gateway and SSL proxy container: this gateway with HA proxy and Grafana routes traffic to multiple instances, manages Letsencrypt certificates and provides monitoring dashboards for HA proxy traffic and PostgreSQL databases.

- One step deployment: run the build script(s) and open the website in the browser, ready to register first account
- All persistent data and logs mapped to one directory
- Pre-configured with two service tiers: Free/Member
- Streams/Forte/Hubzilla, PHP 8.3 with all needed modules, PostgreSQL 17, Redis and Nginx on minimal Linux base
- Stability oriented: everything baked-in in the immutable reproducible Nix image
- Security and isolation: each instance's own image can be rebuilt and restarted independently and minimize attack surface
- Climate friendly or IoT deployment using low computing resources (240MB zipped image)

Additionally to instance images, this deployment includes NixOS based image for proxy, with Certbot and Grafana monitoring

- SSL termination of https connections on proxy frontend
- Certbot for management of Lestencrypt SSL certificates

It's been quite a long time since I did not post a silly question here. So here's one.

There is a Twitter API addon in the streams-addons repo. Is there any chance it could be used as a starting point to work on a Mastodon API addon? I'm one of those who think that Mastodon has many, many flaws, not only in the way it's developed, but also in the way people see it and use it, but there's this API which allows people to use apps to access their accounts. And people do loooooove to have such apps...

I'm asking because I know something around nothing about APIs but if anyone tells me that creating a Mastodon API addon could be done by adapting the Twitter API addon, hell, I could give it a try.

Noticed recently that my site is getting a bit sluggish - and with message expiration taking place, that really shouldn't be happening.

Investigation showed that message expiration has been quietly failing for a while now.

Fixing it isn't the issue. The issue is helping people get their site databases trimmed down again. Removing tens or hundreds of thousands of activities is going to generate quite a system load. And folks on providers with SQL writes/hr counters could run into serious issues.

So the job has been broken into smaller chunks and is being run more frequently until it catches up with the backlog. I don't think this will cause anybody grief, but this is what's happening if you see any weirdness.

Hopefully the only thing you'll notice is that every day things are going to get a bit faster again.

A "permissions role" isn't really about your connections and what they can or cannot do.

It's mostly about **you** and what kind of a channel you want to have. One that any human on earth can spy on and hoover everything you've ever published into their AI creations, or one they cannot.

It's actually more about the people that **aren't** your connections.

I've tried to figure out the difference between the channel types "Social - Normal" and "Social - Restricted". So I switched between them and then checked the permission roles for permissions inherited from the channel type.

Curiously, judging by which permissions permission roles inherit from the channel type, both channel types are identical. All the following permissions which do not have individual channel-wide settings were inherited from the channel type in both cases, so these permissions are granted by both channel types:

[*]Grant viewing access to your file storage and photos[/list]

Also, all the following permissions which do not have individual channel-wide settings were not inherited from the channel type in both cases, so these permissions are denied by both channel types:

[*]Grant permission to republish/mirror your posts

The other permissions in the permission role editor are inherited from individual settings under Security and Privacy.
