A link can say more about you than the page it opens.

A link to a rain jacket in a shop's newsletter often carries extra parts after the address: which newsletter you came from, which campaign, and sometimes an ID that is unique to your click. Share that link with a friend and those parts travel with it.

QR codes add a second problem. You cannot read one before you scan it, and a sticker over the real code looks just the same.

So we built CheckLink, the new app in
Stormberry (nprofile…pf5c) Labs.

Paste a link, share one into it from any app, or scan a QR code, and it shows what the link holds before anything is opened. The parts that tell Google, Meta, Amazon and others about your click are marked in red, each with who learns it and what it tells. Untick anything you want to keep, then copy or share the clean link.

For QR codes it says in plain words what the code holds. Payment requests are shown, never paid. When it finds nothing to point out, it says so, and reminds you that this does not prove a site is genuine.

One permission, the camera, only when you press Scan. No internet permission at all.

A photo can say more than it shows, starting with where you stood when you took it.

Most phone cameras write the date and time to the second and the phone model into every photo, and if you ever let the camera use your location, the GPS position too. Many dedicated cameras add their serial number, and cameras and editing software can add your name.

Some platforms remove this when you upload. A photo sent as an email attachment, as a file in a chat or through a shared folder link usually keeps all of it.

So we built MetadataScrubber, the newest app in Stormberry Labs. It lists what a photo carries besides the picture, ticks the items to remove before sharing publicly, removes only what you choose, normally without re-saving the picture, and reads the new file back so you can see what is left.

It runs entirely on your own device: load it, switch off your network, and it keeps working. The page's own security policy also stops it from uploading anything. JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC. Free, no account, open source.

Stormberry Labs is where we build a functioning prototype to start an idea. If you have one sitting at that stage, we are glad to talk.

Generative AI now reaches 80 per cent of occupations and more than 40 per cent of tasks. In most of those occupations, fewer than half the workers actually use it. Only 2.8 per cent of tasks show adoption above 50 per cent. None passes 70.

That is the shape of a tool that has been made available and not yet built into how the work gets done. Everybody has access. Almost nothing has become the default method.

The distinction matters when you are the one paying. License counts and login rates measure distribution. They say nothing about whether a task got faster, cheaper or more consistent, and they are the numbers most likely to appear on the slide when someone asks how the rollout is going.

If you have bought seats, pick three or four specific tasks and measure those instead. Time to produce a quote. Hours spent on monthly reporting. Rework on a standard document. If none of them moved, the answer is not more training. It is that the tool was never wired into the work.

The task-level adoption table is the part of the paper to read, not the occupation-level figures. Mapping your own highest-volume tasks against it is a short piece of work, and it is where Stormberry starts an AI review.

Three findings on how customers respond to artificial intelligence, from research summarised by MIT Sloan Management Review.

First, people avoid the chatbot even when it costs them nothing. Participants chose it only 28 per cent of the time when the wait was identical either way.

Second, and more useful, the effect is not symmetrical. Across studies with more than 82,000 participants, customers accepted a worse-than-expected offer 78.6 per cent of the time when it came from a machine, against 60.4 per cent from a person. But humans were better at delivering a better-than-expected offer, 89 per cent against 76. The explanation is that nobody reads intent into a system. There is no generosity to credit and no meanness to resent.

Third, a meta-analysis of 163 studies puts adoption down to two things: whether the customer believes the machine is capable, and how much personalisation the task needs.

That last pair is a better test than choosing by department. Before you automate anything customer-facing, sort your interactions by whether the customer expects to be recognised. Start where they do not. Keep a person where they do, and wherever you have good news to give.

Anthropic has proposed a specification for connecting AI agents to laboratory instruments and industrial robots. It defines read and write operations plus device discovery, with three ways to drive it. A research preview is running at a neuroscience institute, with Genentech, Qiagen, Tecan, Danaher and Doosan Robotics among the partners.

The problem it addresses is genuinely dull and genuinely expensive. Getting a new instrument or machine talking to your existing systems takes weeks, sometimes months, of bespoke integration work, every single time.

Anthropic's own caveat is the honest part: language models still lack physical intuition. This is a way to connect an agent to a machine, not a claim that the agent can run your production line. The specification is not open source yet either.

Whether or not this particular standard wins, the direction is clear enough. If your company runs instruments or machines, document your device interfaces now, while nobody is under pressure. Clean, documented interfaces are what make any future connection cheap. Undocumented ones are what make it a project.

Two security firms say they ran 17 million offensive actions against live systems over three days. The result: 38 validated attack paths and 238 findings, work they estimate would have taken a five-person team 2,400 hours.

Treat the arithmetic with the usual caution. A count of findings is a count of things found, not of things worth fixing, and the firms publishing the number sell the service.

The structural point survives that scepticism. Rob Joyce, formerly of the NSA, put it plainly: you are going to be red-teamed whether you pay for it or not. If attacking systems becomes cheap enough to run continuously, an annual penetration test stops measuring your security and starts measuring how long a hole could sit open.

Most companies I speak to are not choosing between annual testing and continuous testing. They have never done either.

For a small or mid-sized Norwegian company in that position, the first step is not an AI red team. It is a written list of everything you expose to the internet, an ordinary vulnerability scan, and fixing what it finds.

New research says AI agents can reach an average of 45 per cent of company data, and 30 per cent or less at the least prepared organisations. Only about half of the 300 executives surveyed trust the decisions their agents make.

Read the small print first. The study is sponsored, produced with a company that sells data infrastructure, and it reports that every single respondent plans to adopt agentic AI within two years. That last figure tells you who agreed to answer the survey, not what the market is doing.

The 45 per cent survives the scepticism, because it matches what firms find when they actually look. An agent is only as good as the systems somebody bothered to connect it to. Two thirds of the laggards blamed legacy systems for blocking both growth and real-time decisions.

Most failed AI projects I hear about were never model problems. They were plumbing problems wearing a strategy costume.

For a small or mid-sized Norwegian company, start there. List the five systems an assistant would need to read to be genuinely useful, then find out what proper access to each would cost. Do that before choosing a vendor.

Brazil has quietly moved the start of split payment. From January 2027 the new consumption taxes begin to be charged, but the automatic collection at the moment of each transaction will not start with them. No new date has been set. The banks that must process it asked for more time.

If you sell into Brazil or run a subsidiary there, read this as a cash flow story rather than a tax story. The bill does not change. What changes is when the money leaves you. Today a Brazilian company receives the full amount from the customer and pays the tax later, so that gap works as free short term funding. Under split payment, the tax share never reaches your account at all. For a firm running on thin working capital, that is the difference between comfortable and tight.

For a small or mid-sized Norwegian company with Brazilian operations or Brazilian suppliers, use the delay. Model the working capital gap now, while you have months, rather than in the week the new date is finally announced.

Set an alarm for six hours before solar noon, or eight hours after sunrise, and it
recomputes every day as the seasons move. When you build a rule it shows you the next
thirty days of fire times, so a rule that drifts into the afternoon in December is
visible when you set it rather than discovered in November. During polar night it falls
back to solar noon and tells you why.

25,007 cities are compiled into the app, each carrying its own timezone. There is no
INTERNET permission, so it cannot phone home even if it wanted to, and no location
permission either. You can check that yourself before installing.

MIT licensed, and the same maths runs in the browser if you would rather not install
anything.

A functioning prototype built in Askøy, where the gap between a December sunrise and a
June one is nine and a half hours and the question stops being academic.

A reused username ties your accounts together long before anyone gets near your email or your password. Using a different one everywhere is one of the cheapest privacy habits there is, and the irony is that most username generators are websites you have to hand your new identity to.

So we built one that never sees it, and it is now on Zapstore, the app store built on nostr.

UsernameGenerator asks for no Android permissions. Not "only the clipboard", none at all, and you can check that before you install: dump the permissions of the APK and the only line you should see is the package name. Everything runs on word lists compiled into the app, so there is no network access, no account, no analytics and nothing that could phone home. The names you generate stay in memory for the session and are never written to disk, because a saved list of the identities you created is exactly the file you would not want on your phone. Randomness comes from SecureRandom rather than an ordinary random number generator, since identities you are keeping apart should not be guessable from one another.

What it does: one to five words, drawn from curated lists of positive words in 11 languages, including Norsk, Português, Español, Deutsch, Français, Italiano, Nederlands, Polski, Română and Latina. Mixed, or adjectives, nouns or verbs only. A separator of none, hyphen, underscore or full stop. Accents are stripped after generation, so "condução" becomes "conducao" and the result is accepted everywhere. Tap to copy.

Publishing through nostr adds something an ordinary download does not. The signing certificate of the app is cryptographically linked to our nostr identity, so your device can check the build really came from us before it installs it. The source is open under MIT, every release is built in the open, and each one carries a provenance record tying the binary to the commit it came from.

Partial here: between 81 and 91 per cent covered, from about 18:45 to 20:55, deepest around 19:40 to 20:00. It is the largest eclipse seen from Norway since 2015.

Shops have sold out; a store in Sandnes told NRK its phone rings every five to ten minutes.

Never look directly at the sun. Only certified eclipse glasses marked ISO 12312-2 are safe; ordinary sunglasses and welding goggles do not give adequate protection, and the damage can be permanent. Without glasses, use a pinhole projector and watch the projected image, never the sun.

If the clouds hold off, the Perseids follow from around 23:00.

None of this is a surprise; the sky is arithmetic.

A different username for every service you register on. It is one of the simplest privacy habits there is: a reused username links profiles across the web long before anyone touches your email or password.

Our founder Marcos follows that habit strictly, and it came with a recurring annoyance: every registration meant searching for yet another username-generator website, and hoping it was not tracking him while it generated his private identity.

So he built his own, and we are releasing it as open source. Email, phone, video call, in-person, voice note, instant message. The same words land very differently depending on which channel they arrive through, and which culture is on the other end.

In Norway and Germany, email is professional and asynchronous, the default for anything substantive. In Brazil or much of South-East Asia, the same email can read as cold or even passive-aggressive. The substantive conversation happens on phone or in person, and email is for confirming what was already agreed.

Voice notes are normal in many Latin American and Mediterranean teams. They are still slightly intrusive in Scandinavia. Sending one to a Norwegian counterpart you have not built a strong relationship with can feel like skipping a step.

Video calls flatten the cultural gap a little, which is why they have become the international neutral ground. They also flatten warmth. For a relationship-driven culture, the first meeting on video is harder, not easier, than meeting in person.

Real strategy review asks: are the assumptions we made three months ago still true? If they are, double down. If they are not, change the strategy now, not next year.

The cadence depends on the speed of the market you operate in. In stable industries, biannual is enough. In AI, energy, or anything export-driven in 2026, monthly is closer to right. Some early-stage segments need a fortnightly check.

What kills strategy is not absence of review. It is review without honesty about what changed.

A useful litmus test: in the last three months, has any leadership decision overturned a previous one based on new information? If not, you are not running a strategy review. You are running a confirmation ritual.

In Brazil, the same meeting ends "when the topic is exhausted". Pushing for a hard stop reads as cold or transactional.

Both are correct, in their own context. Anthropologists call this the difference between monochronic and polychronic time. One culture treats time as a line you follow strictly. Another treats it as a pool you swim in.

If you sell, lead, or partner internationally, you are negotiating two things in every meeting: the substance, and the time-rules of the room.

A few practical signs you are in a polychronic context: meetings drift past their end time without anyone flinching; agendas are treated as suggestions; multiple conversations run in parallel.

The mistake I see most often is Norwegian or German leaders reading polychronic flexibility as disorganisation, and Brazilian or Mediterranean leaders reading monochronic rigidity as disrespect.

Neither is true. Both sides are operating by the time-rules they were taught.

In 2026, this is no longer good practice. Markets, costs, regulation, and supply chains move on cycles much shorter than twelve months. AI capability shifts every quarter. Energy prices shift every month. EU regulation lands every six weeks.

The replacement is not "no plan". It is a layered plan. A long-horizon strategy that changes rarely, two to three years out, with explicit assumptions written down. A medium-horizon plan that updates quarterly, six to nine months out, with measurable milestones. A short-horizon execution plan that updates monthly, six to eight weeks out, owned at team level.

The leaders I see thriving in 2026 are not the ones with the most ambitious annual plan. They are the ones who can change a milestone within four weeks of new information arriving.

What a €2-7K budget gets you for local AI in 2026. Which chips actually matter for inference. The real difference between running models locally vs. using an API. Why some tasks belong on-device and others don't.

The prosumer AI hardware stack is moving fast, and in 2026 it is moving on one thing: memory. A global DRAM shortage has repriced the whole shelf, so here is what I'd buy today, and why.

At this budget the choice is raw speed on a discrete GPU, or memory capacity on a unified-memory box. The shortage has pushed those two further apart.

The speed route. An NVIDIA RTX 5090 with 32GB of very fast memory, now around €3,000 to €3,500 (the €2,000 launch price did not survive the shortage). It is the quickest tokens you can buy without an enterprise contract, and by some distance the best local image and video generator. You can even run it as an external GPU over Thunderbolt 5 or OCuLink, though at 575W it needs a serious enclosure, so in practice it stays a desktop-tower card. The catch is unchanged: 32GB is the ceiling on a single consumer card, so a 70B model already spills past it.

The capacity route. An AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 mini PC, the GMKtec EVO-X2, with 128GB of unified memory for around €1,900 direct. It holds 70B-class models a 32GB card cannot, sits silently on a desk, and sips power next to a 575W discrete card. The honest trade is speed: it is bandwidth-limited, so it flies on mixture-of-experts models and crawls on dense 70B, single digits to low teens of tokens per second. You run bigger models, just slower, on Linux rather than CUDA.

The Apple route. A Mac with 128GB of unified memory is the quiet, efficient option: near-silent, low power, comfortably over 20 tokens per second on a 70B model with Apple's MLX stack. The asterisk is price. The 128GB box here is a Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra chip, 32-core CPU and 80-core GPU, around €6,600, and the DRAM shortage is a big part of why that much memory costs what it does. You pay a real premium for macOS and silence.

None of this top end is needed for everyday work. Most business tasks, drafting, summarising, classifying, and answering questions over your own documents, sit happily on 14B to 32B models, which run on far cheaper hardware.

The honest part. Local wins on privacy, full control of your data, and zero cost per token once the box is paid for. The API wins on frontier reasoning and the occasional heavy lift you cannot match at home. For most teams the answer is hybrid: a small local model for the private, high-volume, repetitive work, and a frontier API for the hard problems.

So buy for the model you run every day, not the one you run once. And in 2026, buy the memory before the shortage decides for you.

When I moved from Brazil to Norway, I thought I understood direct communication. I was wrong.

In Brazil, "direct" means I'll tell you what I think, but wrapped in warmth, context, and relationship. In Norway, direct means: here is the fact. Full stop.

Neither is better. But misreading one for the other can cost you a deal, a partnership, or a team member.

High-context cultures (Japan, Brazil, much of the Middle East) communicate through implication, relationship, and what is NOT said. Low-context cultures (Norway, Germany, Netherlands, USA) communicate explicitly: what is said is what is meant.

The skill is knowing which room you're in.

The cultural nuances of feedback are fascinating. Having delivered training courses globally, I’ve encountered regions where participants consistently give perfect 100% scores, whilst in other cultures, achieving anything above an 80% is practically impossible!

I personally find it most actionable when people provide specific observations alongside concrete suggestions for improvement. That said, I've learned to appreciate that what feels 'constructive' is heavily shaped by our cultural background :)
