They absolutely can collude, and "private from each other" doesnt mean they didn't preliminarily know who each other was in the formation of a federation. It also doesnt mean means they can't discover each other's npubs, which dovetail directly into multiple private messaging protocols over which they CAN coordonate and collude in a manner opaque to the users.
If the goalpost is now "cannot geolocate each other", I never claimed they could.
I'm looking at that subreddit, and it appears armada is the most popular project in that little community dedicated to discord alternatives (so they say).

If every guardian can discover every other guardian's npub via the federation's own consensus metadata (which anyone holding an invite code can read), how can you say that guardians can't discover each other and collude to steal funds?

Laptop hard drives can be encrypted. If you really don't trust LUKS, go ahead, use a seed phrase, keep it offline and treat the laptop like a SeedSigner.
And exfil is literally the last thing any normative person should worry about. They'll get rugged answering a phone call from "Ledger support" long before someone with multi-million dollar equipment physically acquires the device

I think it's pretty apparent that hardware wallets and BIP-39 did not make self-custody easier or more secure.
They made it look easy and secure, but the teetering stack of caveats you have to learn (usually the hard way) represent just as much effort as self-custody was before HWW's existed.
You could just as easily have learned to rip the radio guts out of a laptop and make it an offline signer.
