All good points.
We are not going to deprecate keysend anytime soon and as especially not as long as there are still lots of feeds using it - however I do believe the lack of wallet adoption means it will eventually fade.
In terms of artist's running their own nodes - I get the appeal of keysend but the reality is the majority of artists I speak to will never do this - they need wallets that are easy to onboard to and easy to use - and all the new wallets coming out that provide this ux and easy onboarding do not support keysend.
Out of interest - how do you approach the conversation with new artists? What wallets do you recommend?
