It is so simple I never questioned what it does because it just does what we normally do; kube build, apply, Helm Upgrade, Git pull, ...
Abstractions are very simple and to the point. Who wants to manage clusters by having a controller in another cluster and who manages that? Proper isolation and encapsulation works perfectly. I only use source kustomize and helm controllers, never needed the extra stuff.
