My mom was the tail end of the silent generation, though even her boomer sisters are very good women... I know she expressed being basically bewildered by 60's movements (even rock & roll, largely, since they still listened to family play, or bands like The Carters, etc, but especially hippies, MLK Jr, feminism/abortion rights).
It certainly wasn't organic-feeling to our people who knew better. A lot of yentas to start, ofc.
