About that... you actually don't own them according to the modern hunting laws in the US. The government took that away a long time ago.
All game is under the control of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services on a federal level and various agencies on a state level. That's why you are still required to tag and report game caught on your property and the game wardens are exempt from the 4rth amendment when it comes to searching your property for illegally hunted game.
In a lot of states you not only have to buy a hunting license EACH SEASON to hunt on your own land but also the state makes makes you pay for EACH animal bagged and can charge more depending on what you used to hunt them.
Also, game wardens can suspend your ability to even buy a hunting license on the SUSPICION of illegal activity, the terms of which are so broad that it's effectively without cause.
