Are you saying that some people decide to fund and encourage stupid projects that waste millions of hours of time of thousands of people who could otherwise be working in actual competitors to these incumbents?
That makes a lot of sense and I believe this stuff happens indeed, but I was trying to think of an example of this when I realized it would lead to the conclusion that Nostr itself is a psyop.
