Then I won't suggest GrayJay (https://grayjay.app/). I understand wanting to limit or remove easy Youtibe access on your phone!
Far prefer simple interface of Newpipe and Tubular, but GrayJay still works for browsing videos by creator channel.

I played some Bad Brains for my 13 year old son. On his own he discovered The Descendants and Minor Threat. When I was his age you had to rely on older kids or other friends to discover new music. Now he's turning me onto new music thanks to streaming services (which I never got into). ; )

Nice! It's magical when they sit still for a moment. I once managed to get fairly close to an Anna's hummingbird that was sitting on the branch of a fir tree. It felt like time had stopped.

Yesterday evening our little dog got killed by a coyote.
We were in the living room, with the front door open, and weren't concerned when our dog went outside because there was still plenty of light. (We were careful at night, never letting him go out alone.)
A coyote jumped the fence and grabbed our dog. We heard him scream, ran outside and started chasing the coyote, barefoot, running and screaming for help and calling our dog's name. At one point the coyote was only 20 yards ahead, but there was nothing we could do.
The only comfort is that, though our dog was terrified, he could hear us yelling and running after him and knew his people were coming for him.
Our kids are devastated and my wife stayed home from work today. He was such a good little friend, we're heartbroken.

It's good to get an affirmation like that, that you can just as easily be sipping on something nonalcoholic.
I'm currently abstaining from alcohol. Yesterday my family went to watch music and I got us all root beers and a coke to drink. I enjoyed the root beer but only drank half because it was so sweet. But I really enjoyed just spending time with my family.

I use Auxio and like it better than other music players I've tried. It's hard to find a good local music player!
Auxio is available in F-Droid: https://f-droid.org/packages/org.oxycblt.auxio. Let me know if you land on something else.

Its a fork of Termux terminal app. So, just command line stuff, but if you use the terminal, it's cool to have the same tools available on your phone. Some of my favorites are fzf, buku, newsboat, rsync, and readability-cli (which I use to save web articles and strip out ads and distractions)

I don't game, so I guess I don't feel like I'm missing much. Also, I'm willing to sacrifice convenience for control of my data.
I enjoy learning a little about how computers work and creating scripts. Once you get used to Linux, you get more tuned into open source projects and people's contributions.

Linux Mint is a great way to start.
Syncthing is a syncing tool that will run on your computer and your phone. It's decentralized and a great way to sync folders between devices. You can even share folder with a friend if they also use syncthing. Proton Drive is a good intermediate step, but syncthing will allow you to be more in control of your data.
KeepassXC is a password manager that will also work on your computer and phone. If you pair it with syncthing, then you can synchronize keepassXC between devices, so no need for a cloud service.
Tor Browser is useful to keep around for more private web browsing.

Debian is pretty reliable for servers and easy to find support.
I used Ubuntu server for years, but have used NixOS on the server for the last two years. But this would be like jumping into the deep end, so I wouldn't recommend it to start.
I'd say Debian or Ubuntu are a good place to start because you'll find lots of documentation and guides.

Are you planning to carve up different partitions on that one disk? You'll want to create a partition just for /home. And you could make 2-3 other partitions in anticipation of installing different distros.
Work carefully! Double-check the partition layout with 'lsblk' to make sure you don't install a distro to the wrong location.

I've been considering getting set up with fold, just as a way to bring my wife along. I like the idea of setting up payments for regular expenses and watching over time to see if it was wise to invest this money to BTC on a regular basis. Again, as a way for family members to learn about Bitcoin.
Any suggestions other than Fold? I have Strike, but something with a debit ir credit card would help since it's familiar territory.

The secret edits are creepy and feel dystopian. Didn't John Deer have to reverse course on their plans for essentially "renting" their expensive tractors to farmers? They wanted service contracts and were selling high priced maintence manuals, but I think some of this was undone when the onboard computers were cracked and reverse engineered.
