Beach and ocean vibes in three countries and two continents this month
Could make it to 4 if I go somewhere in Dubai by Wednesday.

Note to self: Never agree to do a weekend podcast for a company. Especially on an international travel day. Will see if they can reschedule it. On that note, their views are so low according to public view counts that I don't worry too much about preparing.

Just had an AI cybersecurity startup ask for a call to have me on a BOD (board of directors) and I am at a stage where I am not sure how people get me on their radar, but how far deep someone would come up with a fake profile and company (he looks legit).

In Italy for just over a week before I fly to Dubai. Going to just focus more on just being creative - watercolors, gouache, clay modelling, chalk, and acrylic markers.
In between, I'm packing up hopefully 2 checkin luggage with the rest of my items, including this antique globe with a compartment inside for small bottles of liquor that I bought in 2022 but haven't been able to bring with me.
Also going to do a post writeup of travels.

Waiting for our flight, drinking a sauvignon blanc. Italy, France and Switzerland represent.
Had a nice weekend in Florida Keys and Miami.
Back to Europe!

Mary: "What do you like about Nostr?"
Me: "Zapping people. It's fun to be able to give people sats"
At the moment, I am mainly following tech etc folks but would love to see a wider use where I'd see my pilates instructor doing useful content, or chef sharing cool recipes, and I can send them sats as thanks.

It's been more than a month in Roatán. In some ways, great place to be for travel, people / communities, sport and outdoor lifestyle, food. Just a different pace in life. Attached is just a highlight reel of some moments, mainly around lifestyle.

Today, had my last pilates session. The studio is closing after just one year in operation. Which, makes sense, who else can actually afford to go AND deal with traffic? But now I am wondering what the Real Housewives of Roatan are going to be up to now (already saw 3 of my pilates girls at the local RHoR HQ - Eldon's).
The teacher gave me a gift though - a resistance band.
I think reformer pilates is overrated, and feels like using a tool that has too many features for what you actually need to do
Also teacher quality - maybe half of the teachers do it because it's so trendy.
I'd try mat pilates instead at my usual studio in Dubai, or do it at home.

Below are workshop details I am sharing on behalf of a founder:
---------
Free AI for Business workshop 🌴
Saturday, September 12th at 3 PM, at Amity Age Academy (Bitcoin Center, Pristine Bay).
The workshop is made especially for small and medium business owners who want to see what AI can actually do for your business, not just talk about it.
The best part: during the live demo, one lucky business gets picked at random and we build them a real website on the spot, right there in the room 👀
It's completely free, with snacks and drinks included, and it's a collaboration with Rotary Roatán, Utila and Guanaja — so it'll be a great crowd too.
You can save your spot below: https://luma.com/m4mc79ss

Related to "STM32 Entropy Bug Identified" which is in reference to Cold Card attack, not Trezor.

It's now back to usual week after Free Cities conference: pilates, golf, tennis, catching up with people since it'll be our final week in Roatan, Honduras.
I so far have managed to do things that I have been wanting to do while here, except to do a scuba intro course (too much going on) and watercolor art (hard to focus, and need an actual desk).
Another issue has been how small the apartments have been, so without a dedicated private workspace for 2, it's actually a bit difficult to do anything. It's a typical issue regardless of where you stay in because a large enough desk space for 2 is challenging whether it is in a 5* hotel or Airbnb.
Luckily, I am on a "break" (except to volunteer as a mentor and as an exam writer) and I have come up with things to do, so the situation isn't THAT bad. But if I was working like my usual mode, with the need for private space to work, OK internet connection, occasional unannounced power issues, and lack of space/privacy for calls, the timezones, I would only be able to tolerate to stay a couple of weeks, or break up the stay in a hotel, or stay in a villa.

Yeah, I realized this via a meme and also trying to mute a user.
Another point to learn is the concept of remote login when I switched to the mobile app from desktop.

Decided that I am basically never going to any AI talk unless it's from direct source.
A lot of it is some combination of "read a paper", "the LLM vomited out text for me", "the LLM acts like this" aka rehashed stuff.
LARPER-VILLE.
Also Dubai still winning over large-scale AI implementation.

Floor plans are available and customizeable target price $270k-$1.2 million.
Check back in a few days when they release it.
I have some more questions but this whole project looks super interesting.

It's a good digital nomad start of the week.
Started it off with snorkel in Roatan in Honduras near the Kimpton (stayed for the weekend). Then back to Prospera since it is the beginning of the Free Cities Foundation conference and side-events week. Also submitted a CFP for a devsecops conference in Dubai, after about 2.5 years break speaking. I find that it takes a lot of my time and energy to prepare, especially as an unpaid speaker.
Tuesday morning by 8am, submitted the corporate tax paperwork, which was minimal and seamless process due to the small business relief available in the UAE. I also booked my flight to go back to Dubai, in time for the start of the golf academy winter season, start of the Dubai expat meetups, and more. Also applied for more info on changing the company setup, applying for grants and more in Dubai.
Rest of the week is a super interesting one with many conference attendees, tech entrepreneurs, digital nomads, nomad capitalists, free cities leaders and more around the world converging in Honduras. Beach vibes start with volleyball or golf (I'm choosing golf practice) today.

What's important for remote workers and digital nomads isn't beach club memerships, or whether you can buy your creatine supplements or your organic milk in sats.
It's the boring stuff. Banking, power, water, telco. Aka infrastructure.
I see the same things being recycled over and over again in news of digital nomad hubs. DN hubs in podcast interviews are soo cool and soo novel to talk about... People watch, then they come in with a certain set of expectations.
But when the power is cut multiple times over 3 hours with no notice, or if the water is out for several hours on a random day, or just one point of failure for fibre optic connection is enough to lose a few hours to being offline, or if an individual has bank set up issues, or they go through unpaved roads daily, then they don't GAF about the novelty stuff.

2026-08-27 03:23:32 UTC

After a few months of being away and not having my golf / tennis / yoga / gym routines ....
... I got reminded that doing too much all of all of the above all of a sudden can lead to some flare ups - tennis and golf elbows.
So it's been a couple of days rest, then off for #golf practice tomorrow.

Earlier I posted about the difference in AI assistant helpfulness between Kimi and Claude when I wanted to find out more about an error message related to an "abliterated" (refusal-removed) build of a model with Claude refusing to answer a simple query and Kimi being more helpful. This time around, I asked a simple question (what is modal vs gradio).
Below is the first sentence for each:
"You dumb human!" Claude:
They actually solve two different problems, and it's a really common point of confusion since people often see them used together. <insert two paragraph, unhelpful jumbo word salad of the two>
"I am a helpful assistant" Kimi:
Modal and Gradio are fundamentally different tools that are often used together rather than as alternatives. Here's how they differ when building LLM-generated application UIs: <inserts succint table of the two>
And below is how they end my query:
Claude:
If your real question is "which one should I use to have an LLM generate an app's UI for me" (as opposed to which is a UI toolkit) — that's a different thing again: that's more the territory of tools like Claude Artifacts, v0, or Bolt, which use an LLM to write frontend code. Gradio and Modal are both things a developer (or an LLM acting as one) would use, not tools designed to auto-generate a UI from a prompt. Let me know if that's actually the angle you meant and I can go deeper there.
Kimi:
If your goal is to have an LLM generate application code and then run that code safely, Modal is the infrastructure that makes that possible. Gradio is what you'd use to let users interact with the results.
Claude inserts a bunch of word salad wrapped in, my interpretation, as some incredulous tone of "why even ask this question" and I still prefer Kimi's usefulness and succinctness.
