Personally, I would never have any sizeable amount of Bitcoin on any exchange longer than the required time to clear the purchase. But the masses will never self-custody. They're too lazy to learn or try to learn. Like it or not, that's the way it is and no amount of "education" will change that for most. So we need reliable custodial solutions for them. The ones who can be taught will eventually learn self-custody. Bitcoin is going mainstream, and people will buy it without understanding any of it. So we have to have reliable custodial solutions for them.

Well I cancelled my X Premium membership. I haven't been on it in several weeks to browse. There are Bitcoiners I follow over there, though, who aren't over here... yet... and I don't want to lose them, so I'm not totally cancelling. Honestly, I don't know what's keeping them.

A couple of months ago I added a group, it didn't work correctly and then there was no way to delete it, so I created a new nsec to get rid of it. I later discovered 0xChat could can remove them. But posting to groups with Amethyst has not worked for me in the past. Maybe this has updated? Been a few months since I tried it.

2024-11-18 02:13:37 UTC

- reply

Groups. 0xChat can create them and then they appear in Amethyst, but they are jacked and don't work when opened in Amethyst. And I haven't found any way to delete a group in Amethyst. 0xChat can be used for group deletion. Other than that, DMs work fine in Amethyst, but it would be nice for recipients to be able to see reactions and other features would be nice as well, but groups that function is mainly what I'm referring to.

2024-11-18 02:03:22 UTC

- reply

But work needs to be done to DMs. Groups especially. It's the only fly in the ointment. Put more effort into DMs and Amethyst will be very close to perfection.

Sure, I do try other clients. But I create a new nsec with the client I'm trying out. Have you ever taken your Amethyst nsec and logged into Primal with it? Totally sucks ass. Almost nothing works. But if you create a new nsec using Primal, everything works. I don't like the algo, and it does no good to follow anyone using Primal, but it does work. Just an example.

2024-11-17 11:54:07 UTC

- reply

This is the reason I only use Amethyst. Vitor does a great job keeping everything moving forward with the next big thing and not many others keep up. No offense intended to the other devs, but it's why you can't take a single nsec and use it with multiple clients. Almost no one is on the same page with their models and NIPs.

No kidding? I'll have to give that a try. I have a Start9 as well, but running Orbot has been the biggest PITA and then I wasn't able to run Mullvad because of it. So I've been waiting on the StartOS clearnet update so I can start using it again for more than just a Bitcoin node. 🙏🏻💪🏻

Same, except I see no reason to use Orbot. If you're using Mullvad (I am as well), how are you switching back and forth since Android only lets you run one VPN?

Haha the first ROM I flashed was Pete's Bugless Beast back in 2009 on the OG Droid. I flashed all kinds of ROMs... mostly CyanogenMod and BAMF on HTC phones. Then Samsung phones. Eventually, I stopped when Android included the features I wanted and Samsung plugged their memory leak.

In Amethyst, settings > relays, there are a couple of recommendations for Search and DMs. But if you go to the General Relay section and tap "Default", you can use some of those for your public/private inbox, public outbox, etc... Some that are really good, that can be used for DM, private/public inbox/outbox that have come up in discussions (I don't remember where) have been:
wss://nostr.mom
wss://nos.lol
wss://relay.0xchat.com
wss://nostr.bitcoiner.social
The others in your General defaults list are probably really good options as well. These will definitely get you in the mainstream, from my experience. Others may want to chime in here...

2024-11-10 22:45:17 UTC

- reply

It will get better, but I think non-technical people will have to be spoon-fed for a long time and will have to be pulled in to Nostr. It's human nature to keep doing what they're doing unless they're forced off centralized platforms in some way, either through censorship or a platform gets shut down.

2024-11-10 22:14:59 UTC

- reply

Also, I found that if I'm using the same nsec in Primal, for example, that I'm using in Amethyst, the result is terrible. I had to create the same profiles using nsecs created with Primal to get a result that was in any way usable.

2024-11-10 22:11:31 UTC

- reply

Amethyst use the outbox model, which I believe is the reason you can set specific relays to handle your private/public inbox, DMs, private and local relays and general relays. Amethyst seems to capture posts and comments I can't see with any other client. Just go with what Vitor recommends and add to it if you want. Problem is not everyone uses an Android phone. I want to try and like other clients, but honestly, and I don't want to discourage development in any way, but Amethyst is what I use unless I'm just trying something else out.

I really didn't think Trump see Bitcoin as a threat to the dollar. He is already taking about ending the Fed. I think he sees Bitcoin as a tool to help bring in a new golden age for America.

2024-11-07 05:45:00 UTC

- reply

The dollar is going to be replaced by BRICS. Trump likely knows this. I believe it's possible he may try to save what's left of the dollar by backing it with some combination of gold and Bitcoin. Or a new token, NOT a CBDC, but *something* he can back with gold and Bitcoin. I would expect something like this during the next 4 years.

2024-11-07 04:27:21 UTC

- reply

Exactly

2024-11-07 04:24:54 UTC

- reply

Nah, clearly the left couldn't pull off the big cheat this time like they did on 2020 because so many people were onto them from last time. They couldn't do the ballot dumps at 3 am, etc, and their attempts to get illegals on the voter rolls largely failed. Biden got 15 million fake votes in 2020 and Camilla couldn't pull it off. That's what happened. 😉

2024-11-07 01:18:44 UTC

- reply

Trump won't be able to save the economy or the dollar. Both are doomed already. BRICS will be the new world reserve currency soon. I'd rather have Trump to soften the ride to the bottom than any lefty.
As for Trump's shitcoin, remember a lot of us Bitcoiners were shitcoiners before we were maxis. There is hope for Trump, too.

2024-11-07 00:45:53 UTC

He failed on a lot of things, not gonna lie. But I think he learned from those mistakes, and he's proving it by taking a pro-Bitcoin stance, picking the incoming dream-team of Vance, Musk, RFK Jr, Gabbard, Shanahan, and acknowledging he didn't get it right the first time.

2024-11-06 12:15:39 UTC

True, but Trump has opened up to Bitcoin and wants the US to be the mining capitol of the world. He encourages self-custody. And several of his administration picks are Bitcoiners. Trump is going to be great for Bitcoin and for decentralized tools, like Nostr. The left has fucked things up so bad, though, he won't be able to stop the chaos that is coming for the economy, social order, will probably be handed a world war we can't get out of easily, a currency collapse, and many other atrocities.
