The argument against evil has a longer history than Hitchens.
God gave us free will, is the general answer and you can't have free will without evil.
However God is seen as having free will and being incapable of evil.
If Abraham thought God incapable of evil, he would follow his edicts.
It's a very /this lifetime/ centered view of things to assume that God suggesting killing a son in sacrifice is evil. In the Christian view, you would assume that Isaac would go to Heaven.

There were a lot of wars in the last 80 years. Ignoring other countries wars: the big ones were Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq. Then there were many times the US overthrew governments or aided one side in a civil war.
This current Venzuelan thing is a little like Obama's Libya thing. Let's just hope it doesn't go as badly as Libya.

A secret many people used from the 60s on, often during the transfer to vinyl. When all you have to do is slightly increase the speed of the tape, it's easy. People (DJs especially) also used to slightly increased the speed of vinyl because there was a tweak for that on most record players. Digital mostly killed that. Sweetening is a much more generic term though, it pretty much covers anything done at the mastering stage and beyond.

Yeah, I saw that speech. It was a good joke. Trump is basically a stand up comedian.
The inflation was caused by printing money. Trump did a little bit, Biden outdid Trump by a huge margin. Bidenflation is apt.

Talking about white house decorations isn't frivolous?
Of course it is.
Now talk about the things you just mentioned. The Democrats should be hammering Trump on the economy every day. People are suffering, debt is rising, wages haven't caught up with Bidenflation (which was partly caused by Trump).

Oh, the Kennedy Center thing is super funny. Who knew he could do that.
I must admit to enjoying the complaints against Trump for frivolous things.
What they should be complaining about is his 50 year mortgage plan. That's an admission that house prices are too high for gen-z/millennials and he can't fix it.

Not a dichotomy. There are clearly corrupt police. There are clearly coerced confessions.
What makes you sure that this isn't a case of that?
I try to deal in probabilities of things and this is clearly political which changes odds.
There's corruption somewhere, either in the original convictions or in the later reversal. There are way more eyes on a reversal, so the probability of that being the corrupt part is less.

2025-11-03 16:07:53 UTC

That's another reason their confessions were seen to be coerced because of the parts that made no sense.

Trump's called for lots of people to be arrested. Some are black.
Trump actually bought ads asking for the restoration of the death penalty using the Central Park 5 as an example, after they had been found guilty. So it would be fair to say that he advocated for their death but not their arrest.
Way after that their confessions were found to be coerced (minors without parents) and another guy admitted to the crime so they were released. Never talk to the police.

President Trump is undermining China in Africa and South America. President Biden got Ukraine into a proxy war with Russia and took Syria away (started under Obama). President Obama took Libya out and started color revolutions in many places.
It's not really fair to describe these as presidential actions, especially in Biden's case. They're actions of difference parts the US state apparatus, largely the CIA and military. Likewise Russia and China have their actions.

Crypto is seen as a way of avoiding that order but it's just as likely to be a trap into a global traceable currency.
Just as Russia and China and all the others are trying to remove American power, so to is the US attempting to remove their powers. This is not a one way game.
The difference in strategy is that you mostly don't need kinetic force where information will achieve your aims.
When you do need force, it's sensible to use people from other countries a la Ukraine

Everything needs energy. If you asked someone whether 19/10000 is a big or a small number, shorn of context, you'd expect the answer that it's a small number. Assuming an understanding of fractions or percentages, which doesn't seem to be a given these days.
But you're right solar is expensive in land in comparison to other forms of power generation and that's barely an important problem in comparison with reliability, ease of maintenance, pollution in manufacture and scrapping.

2025-10-19 12:10:52 UTC

- reply

Percentage wise. But then as energy requirements continually rise, we should expect the dots to grow until we run out of land mass. Then the problem of transport will be less of an issue.
