I believe people like Laura Loomer, Benjamin Netanyahu, Russ Vought, and Stephen Miller are running the “Empire”. To say they’re running it is even putting it too strongly though, no one has a firm grip on the administration atm, hence all the chaos. After Iran, and with the reckoning coming for the debt, I wonder how much of an Empire the US still is? Maybe I’ll feel more comfortable calling it that if functioning institutions ever appear here again.

I don’t think AI labs should be allowed to go public for some initial period. At least with SpaceX, Grok/xAI are attached to other businesses, some of them even profitable, and Elon can float some expense with his personal fortune. Having these labs beholden to shareholders while trying to navigate decisions about AI’s development related to ethics and public use is insane if you buy the strong case of their expected growth.

Plenty of great comments from people with more experience on the topic in the replies to this, but the part about justifying the existence of the child’s life to them as a parent stands out to me. Though life cannot be formed without parents, I don’t think it’s the place of a parent to justify to their child why they exist. Life is what you make it, and everyone has a journey to justify their existence to themselves.
I remember being a cynical teenager and having that cliché view that expectations of me were illegitimate because I never asked for this life. Now I view life as a gift, and do not live for expectations, but instead to realize my calling and build a life according to my values. The chance to self-actualize is a gift.
Even if you feel that imposing a fucked up world on a child is cruel, consider children that are born with disabilities or diseases. They’re not even burdened by external factors, their burden is genetic. Is their existence tragic? You may feel that way, but experience is subjective, and maybe things you take for granted are their gift, and maybe that’s enough for them. Maybe it’s enough for them to just see colors, or hear music, or have whatever social interaction, or whatever it is.
Mentioning genetic disorders is probably not the best way to encourage someone who’s worried about uncertainty, so sorry 😭 but the topic started to bother me and I had to write out my thoughts.

I can’t help you, but I can say that I used Primal’s imposed switch to a different wallet as the push I needed to try alternatives both to their client and wallet. I’m on Damus now and use Zeus for the wallet through NWC. There’s a bit more friction involved, but the Zeus wallet offers self-custody that doesn’t depend on Spark. On the KYC side, the Spark wallet still requires a name and email, Zeus doesn’t. Maybe an interesting alternative for you.

We stayed up until like 2 AM and I made him watch a video from a source I established as credible to corroborate what I was saying. That’s how I act when people invite me into their home apparently, but I never thought to do it on shrooms 🤔

For all the shit his generation has endured, is enduring, and will endure, it feels good to see someone so young win. Not sure of his background, but he doesn’t come from money by the looks of it either.
I hope he does something constructive with the money - maybe he’ll be one of the few of his generation that can afford a house now…

Went on a five-day camping trip with my dad to the Adirondack Mountains a week ago.
My dad is an avid outdoorsman and hunter to say the least, and our trips are always intense but rewarding. On this trip, we each hauled pretty heavy bags with all the gear, rowed a canoe across a lake for nearly 2h, then through beaver ponds (and over dams!), then carried said canoe on land to the lake where stayed and made camp.
Said lake is pretty magical, it’s alpine, never crowded (see above journey just to get there, no roads), and the spot we stay even has sand and freshwater clams right by the shore (which we cooked and ate). Caught some bass and cooked em over the campfire too, 10/10

Yeah I aim for 1x but land somewhere near 0.7x too, on average. Cutting and building muscle is called a body recomp, and that’s theoretically the toughest outcome to achieve. However, it all depends on your starting point. If that happens to be a lazy diet and not much exercise, or as often happens, a very suboptimal regimen even with decent diet, then it’s totally realistic. I’m attempting the same thing until September or so, where I’ll bulk up again and go for some serious PRs on all 3 powerlifts. I’ve a small frame, but that won’t stop me from entering the 1000 lb club 😉

2026-06-19 00:28:54 UTC

- reply

What multiple of grams protein/lb body weight are you going for? Typically athletes go for 1x, but I have so much difficulty maintaining that, especially while fitting that into macros that allow me to cut weight. It really is annoying, but whey helps. Some guy told me he uses bone broth bc it’s so cheap and easy to make, but I read that it’s mostly collagen and isn’t as effective as other sources of protein in building muscle 🙃

2026-06-18 23:05:23 UTC

As an American who is fairly politically-informed, it’s shocking to watch how the dealings with Iran have evolved in the past days. Trump’s vascilations aside for the moment, tensions with Iran have been stoked in this country for decades. Events since Oct 7th exposed the depth of corruption in our government, particularly of the kind caused and exploited by Israel. Political commentary focuses on America’s crumbling empire so regularly that it’s difficult and strange to imagine the admin making a rational choice, on this and increasingly any subject.
Nonetheless we have a memorandum of understanding and political messaging that contradicts the propaganda against Iran and paves the way for an exit, no matter how humiliating, from a conflict that only costs us while benefitting a country that has thoroughly corrupted and misled our admin and entire political class. Believing that we’ll follow through on what this new direction requires may be much too credulous (this is the same admin that killed negotiators with bombs the day before negotiations), but considering the form up until now, it’s promising as a start.
Western democracies seem to be deteriorating as a whole, much has been made of Trump/populism being a symptom of that decline. Liberty and popular coercion of the political class, as indicators of democracy, certainly support that assessment. I wouldn’t be writing this or considering political events if I were as cynical of government as many on Nostr tend to be, so I suppose this post is meant as a marker of a moment where the trend inflected just a bit.

This is why dollar-cost averaging is a thing. When you’re just throwing in whatever amount you can really save for the long-term at pre-defined intervals, and consistently, then you don’t have to time it right. By definition, your cost basis will be average for the period that you do it, and if the price changes drastically, on a long enough time horizon your purchases at the “corrected” price will even bring you back to profitability. It’s a rational way to act given uncertainty about the price, many small bets instead of big ones at any one price.

That being the most creative use an insurance worker could devise is pretty funny lol. Then again, once you’re high up enough on the corporate ladder, meetings can become your most important and time-consuming function. I’ve got a front-row seat to watching AI disrupt finance work. Mostly, it just bridges the gap between technical and non-technical workers, also those who were proficient at internet research and not. Dispersion in gains from AI per worker stem from proactivity, experimentation, creativity, knowing which questions to ask according to expertise with the subject matter being applied, and knowing how AI works and subsequently limitations.

Listened to some guy with a small following on youtube rant about insurance companies, private credit, and reinsurance as a trio in crisis that could be as bad as GFC. Going to spend some of this weekend noting his claims and checking them out to the degree I’m able. Really hope he’s wrong…

GM, dug up weeds and prepped the dirt in the garden for planting today. Excited for fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, squash, and mint :)
