ok, the instructions above are 100% correct, the only thing is that once the system first booted, you have only opc user and it can't login via ssh.
I had to connect as root with a serial console to set a proper password for opc user.
Now i don't have anything relevant to do , but works fine enough to fire up nginx

I'm currently running #littlefedi on ubuntu on oracle free tier.
If I have free resources left, I'm gonna check it.

I started with pleroma and didn't like the way the project was poorly managed.
Bugs that lasted years considered less important than stupid new features.
Mastodon on a proxmox debian vm is lighter than I expected.
The biggest point anyway , is the trust on the development team.

I think that #canada has already big mastodon instances, and even an atproto one (nobody is perfect!).
Would be very cool if Carney had a #fediverse account

In that regard, I think they should have their own Canadian instance.
What we really need on the EU instance is all the European MPs, all the members of the Commission, and all 27 governments.
They will receive a lot of feedback, and a large number of people still use X because "it is where politicians speak"

If you both start or get aware of #peertube instances , let us know.
It's so difficult to find good #peertube video channels to follow

I see...wow, 99 votes, a very important voice from Finland.
I'm curious. given the origin, if he can speak proper Finn.
From what I can see on his X is posting all the time in italian, so it looks like something created from russia propaganda, to be relaunched on western media.

2026-03-21 10:06:30 UTC

Looks like on X there is an albanian, with italian citizenship, guy that live in #Finland, it's not even #Finnish speaking, but it's frequently presented by Russian propaganda media as a "finnish right wing politician"
If you can go there and destroy this Armando Mena guy...

I don't think that W thing is atproto based.
I think it's just plain 2026 stupidity to try to do *another* legacy social network and hope for the people to stop using X for that one.

By the way, you can try to install #wafrn that is both an activitypub server and a PDS.
I think it's still relying on BS infrastructure pieces though but it's interesting.
What basically drive me away from atproto is the fact that is complicated to understand also for us technicians.
Here i host my mastodon/gts/snac and that's it, all the pieces of the stack together, in popular opensource software.
I can explain in 5 minutes what is a fediverse instance to whoever
