When you use Nostr for a marketplace like we are doing with RESIN, listings are stored as events that can be spread across many different relay servers. This means when you want to find something specific, a Nostr client needs to ask multiple relays and wait for their responses, which can take some time.
Current Nostr relay implementations can't efficiently search through events based on location. They also can't easily find items that are near a specific place on a map. We seem both desirable for RESIN to provide the best user experience.
We are bridging this gap implementing full-text search provided by Typesense.
Typesense acts like a smart assistant that keeps track of all marketplace items in one place. Instead of waiting for responses from multiple relays, it can instantly:
• Show all items on a map
• Find items near your location
• Search for specific types of offerings in your area
• Suggest nearby alternatives if what you're looking for isn't available
Think of it like having a local guide who knows exactly where everything is, rather than having to ask multiple people and wait for their answers. This makes browsing listings on RESIN much faster and more convenient.

The housing market is in an interesting phase.
We've seen significant price inflation in real estate over the past decade, driven by low interest rates, easy credit, and a surge in demand.
There's a question that many are starting to ask: Are these prices sustainable?
Historically, housing prices have moved with fundamentals—income growth, population expansion, and construction costs.
However, in recent years, prices have outpaced these fundamentals, driven largely by speculative buying, low mortgage rates, and the search for yield in a low-interest-rate environment.
This divergence has caused homes to become more of an investment vehicle than a utility—a place to live. While homeownership has traditionally been a way to build wealth, the current environment has pushed prices far beyond the reach of many, turning homes into speculative assets rather than just a place to live.
Enter Bitcoin. As a deflationary asset with a capped supply, Bitcoin introduces a new standard for value storage and transaction. If we transition to a Bitcoin standard, we could see a fundamental shift in how assets, including real estate, are valued.
What's your take on Bitcoin's role in all this?

𓅦 NOSTR tech update
This week we successfully implemented our Nostr-based messaging system based on NIP-17, instead of the still commonly used NIP-4.
NIP-4, the traditional direct messaging system in Nostr, has a significant privacy weakness: while it encrypts the message content, it exposes important metadata about who is talking to whom and when these conversations occur, "DM Reporter" (@npub164r…448c) which seems to have been deleted from all relays made people aware of this.
At first our idea was to generate a unique keypair for communication with every client so it was harder to trace to see who is using our platform, luckily we found out that there was already a NIP with a better solution, namely NIP-17 which describes "gift wrapped" direct messaging.
The gift wrapped approach combines three NIPs to create a more private messaging system:
𓅦 NIP-44 provides strong encryption for the actual message content using modern cryptographic methods like ChaCha20 and HMAC-SHA256.
𓅦 NIP-59 introduces a clever three-layer wrapping system:
• The actual message becomes a "rumor" that isn't signed
• The rumor gets encrypted and sealed (kind 13)
• The seal gets encrypted, gift wrapped (kind 1059) and then posted by a randomized nostr key.
𓅦 NIP-17 ties it all together by defining how these wrapped messages should be handled, including:
• Using kind 14 for the actual chat message
• Randomizing timestamps to prevent time-based analysis
• Allowing users to specify which relays should receive their DMs
This approach provides several advantages:
• Hides who is talking to whom
• Makes it impossible to see when messages are exchanged
• Allows for message deniability
Relays are also advised to only serve wrapped messages (kind 1059) to their intended recipients, providing an additional layer of privacy protection.

The case for Real Estate on NOSTR
The fundamental architecture of Nostr makes it an ideal platform for revolutionizing real estate transactions and marketplace dynamics. Nostr operates as a decentralized protocol where information flows freely through multiple relays, ensuring transparency and resistance to manipulation.
Centralized systems allow operators to control what users see and access, creating artificial barriers and potentially manipulating market dynamics. They can hide listings, favor certain providers, or charge excessive fees for visibility. This leads to information silos where certain participants have privileged access to data, leading to unfair advantages in the market.
✔️ Enhanced Transparency
Every transaction and listing on Nostr is cryptographically signed and can be distributed across multiple relays, making it impossible to tamper with information. This ensures all market participants have equal access to listing data and market intelligence and can always trace everything back to its source, the signer.
✔️ Resilient Infrastructure
With posts distributed across multiple relays, the marketplace remains operational even if some relays fail. This creates a robust and reliable platform for real estate transactions that isn't dependent on a single point of failure.
✔️ Democratized Access
Nostr's open protocol allows anyone to participate without requiring permission from a central authority. This democratizes access for both buyers and sellers, creating a more inclusive marketplace where small property owners can compete alongside large institutions.
✔️ Reduced Costs
The elimination of intermediaries and centralized control significantly reduces transaction costs. Without the need for expensive centralized infrastructure or corporate overhead, these savings can be passed on to market participants.
Direct InteractionsNostr enables direct peer-to-peer communication between buyers and sellers, allowing for more efficient negotiations and transactions without intermediary interference.
✔️ Innovation Potential
The open nature of Nostr encourages the development of specialized applications and services, enabling new business models and investment opportunities in real estate, and therefore will be fundamental in our rent-to-own concept.
By building on Nostr, a real estate platform can create a truly open marketplace where information is freely available to all participants, eliminating unfair advantages and creating a more efficient and equitable real estate market.
