The Liquid hack was an illustration of how a centralized chain may be in the future: Everyone is running the same implementation, but the node runners do not have any real agency. They do what they are told and a centralized entity can stop and start the chain at its whim. No one seems to verify anything anymore.

In anarchocapitalism (= freest market possible), shared values are still required for the system to work properly; in the literature, this is often referenced as the "bad neighbor problem." Dismissing the problem and just moving on after the hard fork does not solve the underlying problem on the SHA256 chain. It will come back and haunt you again later. #nevent1q…hu3y

2026-10-04 12:19:23 UTC

It is a shame that #Boltz disappeared, but at least we can also do swaps on platforms like #Robosats. The latter is also a nice alternative and fallback to #Bisq. Having more tools like these running on #Tor is essential for the broader bitcoin community.

What is the future of the Liquid network? As long as the base chain is still filled up with garbage, one does not need a sidechain for scaling and one does not have to discuss any further all the other problems this network faces.

2026-09-30 15:13:34 UTC

In the chain split scenario as we have at the moment, it would be useful if a single private key could be exported in #SparrowWallet as it is possible in #Electrum.

One can create a UTXO that only exists on one chain with #ShrikeWallet — no exchange needed. For that you create a new wallet and move a small amount there. In this step the funds will move on both chains. After that you move the funds in Shrike with replay protection on another address. Open the same wallet (seed) in Sparrow and move the same UTXO again on the legacy chain and then mix and move all the coins on the legacy chain. Then export and use the old private keys on the XBT chain to consolidate the XBT coins.

It is not possible anymore to open https://btcmap.org/map with the tor browser and the error message is "Your browser doesn't support WebGL2". In the default configuration of the tor browser this plugin is not available. Compared to 2017, #XBT coin splitting has to be done manually as it is not prepared for you on the silver tablet with new address types and replay protection. It almost seems that this proof of work has been put in place on purpose to only give the coins to those who are willing to put in the work on their side, too ;-)

2026-09-25 05:33:35 UTC

With #ShrikeWallet, #XBT coin splitting can be easily done without the help of exchanges, shady websites, or spammy OP_RETURNs.

In the fiat financial system, almost all transactions can be reversed, and the quality of data, programs, and security is often questionable, but if you can reverse transactions in the worst case, your sloppiness must not be deadly in most cases. Therefore, the marriage of bitcoin and the financial industry is somewhat ironic, because in bitcoin such sloppiness, when exploited by a black hat, is deadly, and you will never see your money again. The #LiquidHack, executed by a "grey hat," was a wake-up call for all the amateurish companies out there and for those that still did not understand that Bitcoin must be different in terms of coding and security standards.

After the #ColdCard debacle, it is time to test some alternative air-gapped setups — did so with #MetroVault today. In this setup, the signing device is an old offline Android device. Even if the phone is ten years old, it is somehow easier to enter passwords and scan QR codes than with a dedicated hardware device ;-). There were some gaps in the documentation, and maybe an alternative export possibility for the signed transaction would be nice in case your desktop PC does not have a webcam.

2026-08-15 06:02:40 UTC

We can discuss any conspiracy that led to the current state of affairs in bitcoin, but remember that none of these perpetrators are omnipotent; plans fail or produce unintended consequences. For instance, the plandemic did not intend to kill the commercial real estate market and establish remote working permanently. There is still space to react and thwart some of their plans. They want to store spam and scams on the chain? So, we can restrict access to it. Therefore, ideas like #MonetaryNode and similar initiatives have to be investigated further.

2026-08-14 04:57:06 UTC

People come and go. Financial engineering is risky—it has blown up before and will again. OG bitcoiners may outlive it all. The sininfluencers defeated #BIP110 but it was a Pyrrhic victory that will not prevent their own demise, because they need the up candle and it will not come as twenty percent of the defeated users are holding—or rather selling than buying more euphorically.

The last battle has been lost, and it is sad to see that the anti-spam movement is now divided into two groups. One group wants to hard fork the chain, and the other wants to continue to defend the existing chain with the available means such as decentralized mining and filtering. The latter seems slower but more realistic, as it is almost impossible to overcome existing network effects. The situation in the bitcoin space may change rapidly, and bad actors may disqualify themselves. Mt. Gox, FTX, etc., are gone; the same may apply to Saylor & Co. With dying sponsors like Coinkite, their supported sinfluencers will disappear as well. In a couple of years, the situation may look different.

Spam filtering is not dead. #Knots 20260508 is currently being replaced by 20260507, as the stats show.

2026-08-10 08:29:47 UTC

Do not listen to Saylor, but look at what he is actually doing. He sold over 1.6k bitcoins last week. Over 4k Lightning channels have already been closed since the beginning of the month. So much for the "nothing will happen" narrative. One can only hope that mining pools are smarter than that and realize what choosing not to listen to the community means for the future. Therefore, avoid further disruption and adopt #BIP110.

2026-08-07 07:17:35 UTC

For most people who can think for themselves, it should now be really obvious that the #ColdCard hack, the transformation of the blockchain into a data store, Saylor's bitcoin paper scheme, the lying sinfluencers, etc., are all attacks to capture bitcoin. Bitcoin will stall and then decline if the community does not act now and forces #BIP110 to activate.

2026-08-06 17:16:36 UTC

Two times 21 is a nice number of #BIP110 blocks.
#nevent1q…a9w6

2026-08-06 04:50:18 UTC

With the #ColdCard incident, the community has been fooled by trusting the experts. Do not repeat the same mistake by trusting them again regarding new use cases for bitcoin. Adopt #BIP110.

2026-08-05 06:25:53 UTC

Will there be books written about the current spam war like "The Blocksize War"? I guess only if #BIP110 activates. I mean, who wants to read a book about the villains winning? ;-)

2026-08-04 07:47:28 UTC

The sad thing about the Coinkite story is that for them, fighting the competitors with dubious means — domain squatting, destroying working code in order to change the license, publicly mocking new ideas, etc. — was more important than serving their customers with a secure product. Code reviews are hard, but observing the characters of people can be done by everyone — and yes, there are a lot of shady #BIP110 opponents as well. #ColdCard

2026-08-03 17:07:56 UTC

Hm, about 500 BTC moved to Liquid in last couple of days. What is going on there?
More LBTC, Boltz suspended, #ColdCard hack. All coincidence?

2026-08-03 06:10:17 UTC

A wallet has to do one thing perfectly – generating a random seed. #ColdCard and Q have a lot of bells and whistles, but failed at that most important thing. A lot of additional features are a violation of the KISS principle. Therefore keep bitcoin itself simple with one task that is money by adopting #BIP110

It will be done so late and secretly that no mining pool can be blamed for setting a precedent and after that it is just a fait accompli. Meanwhile, hash power will migrate to DATUM and some hasher may leave the market entirely.

2026-07-28 06:10:55 UTC

Mining pool Poolin filed for bankruptcy in 2026—mining is a tough business. Do you think mining pools can play games concerning #BIP110? #BIP110 is all about the signal. It never claimed to stop spam, as the R in #RTDS stands for "reduced". It is another step to strengthen the decentralization of bitcoin again. Therefore, stop this infantile parroting that there will always be a way around to put spam in the chain, and start thinking several steps ahead. Imagine what the chain may look like in ten years if things do not change now.
