I had to lay low for a while. It wasn’t safe, and I wasn’t a threat to their power or their self-interest anymore, so they left me alone. I didn’t fight loud, I fought smart. With silence. With survival. Went into hiding. With patience. That’s how I made it through. I survived everything they threw at me. I’m still here, not untouched, but unbroken. I survived to fight another day. And most importantly, my family’s safe.

Frank,
I’ve taken some time to reflect before replying, because I truly don’t understand the level of anger you continue to carry, or how, despite years of verifiable work and an abundance of public evidence, you remain convinced by Shamay’s version of events.
I understand healthy skepticism. But you’ve seen the same proof everyone else has. The public ledger of how funds have been used has been shared repeatedly since last October:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/172VhWeli_OtOVSJISEUPSKeNEtao9kBLYjmNW3oBCMk/edit
The @BitcoinSranan X account alone documents two years of continuous grassroots progress. Samuel Kullman, a respected Swiss parlementarian, publicly shared his firsthand account of the event with Kruse, directly contradicting the narrative you’ve chosen to amplify.
Yet you chose to post only the last few transactions I sent you, not the full, transparent tracker. As a journalist, you know how that can distort a story. You also implied, without evidence, that companies like Newmont are involved in money laundering. That accusation carries weight, and consequences. I wonder if they’re even aware of what you have accused them of.
I’ve spoken in multiple national interviews here in Suriname, on the record, and refuted the claims circulating. I’ve also made it clear that if I were “controlled opposition,” I wouldn’t need crowdfunding or community-funded security. That’s not how this works.
Frank, I want you to know this isn’t written in anger. I don’t wish to discredit you. But I am disappointed. You asked questions, and I answered them all. I’ve never hidden. I’ve only kept working. And while I respect your work, I also ask you to reflect on whether you’ve truly honored the journalistic principles you represent.
Ralphie, by contrast, has shown grace, depth, and a sincere desire to understand. He knows more than most and asks better questions. Speaking down to him won’t change that.
You joined X in 2018. I’ve been in the Bitcoin space long before that. If I wanted to scam anyone, it would’ve been far easier to launch a shitcoin, mint NFTs, or fundraise behind some hollow token. But I didn’t. Because that’s not who I am. That’s not what I’m here for.
Ironically, some of the biggest scams of this cycle came from those closest to the people now pointing fingers. Including a sitting president whom launched an NFT and shitcoin platform. And let’s not forget: Bitcoin Magazine was co-founded by Vitalik. Some echoes still remain.
In any case, I regret that this has unfolded the way it has. I wish you peace and clarity. We’ll be reaching out to your editors to present the full picture, and over the next week, we’ll continue sharing more, openly and transparently, as we’ve done since the start.
With respect,
Maya

FREEDOM USED TO MEAN SOMETHING. IT STILL CAN.
There was a time when the word “freedom” stirred something sacred in the human heart.
When “liberty” wasn’t a slogan but a fire, one that lit revolutions, forged nations, and pulled entire peoples out of the shadows of tyranny.
Today, that word gets thrown around like loose change. Used, diluted, weaponized.
But freedom isn’t fashion.
It’s not what you post, what you buy, or who you vote for.
Freedom is deeper.
It’s the right to be, without permission.
To speak, without fear.
To dream, and to act on that dream, without a ceiling imposed by your birthplace, your gender, your race, your bank account, or your party line.
Liberty is not given. It is claimed. It is lived.
It’s a promise we must renew, every generation, with the boldness of those who came before us, those who dared to imagine a life unshackled, even when their chains were still on.
Today, our chains look different.
Bureaucracy instead of bars.
Censorship masked as safety.
Corruption masked as competence.
Dependency sold as compassion.
Surveillance disguised as protection.
But I believe in the human spirit.
I believe in the fire that once moved millions to march, to write, to stand, to build, to fight, and to love in the face of impossible odds.
We are not meant to be managed.
We are not here to comply.
We are here to live.
Fully. Proudly. Freely.
So let’s rise, not with hatred, not with violence, but with clarity, courage, and conviction.
Let’s build a world where liberty once again means something.
Where our children don’t inherit fear, but freedom.
Where dignity is not the privilege of the few, but the birthright of all.
We owe it to those who came before us.
We owe it to ourselves.
And we owe it, most of all, to those who come next. ✊🏽🩷

Recently I receive the question a lot, why I’m not Nostr first, or whatever that’s supposed to mean.
I went to MIT two years ago and at a debate at the MIT Media Lab about new laws for media and content distribution and decentralized alternatives hosted by a Harvard professor and professor Sandy Pentland, I pushed back and lobbied for Nostr.
For over two years I have been on Nostr, when it just started and it was almost deserted and @nprofile…4jxf was answering everyone. I missed Nostrica and Nostrasia, because of work and obligation to my team and their families. But still went to and supported all Nostr events at all the conferences. Only for those same people to ignore me when we needed Nostr in Suriname.
I had dinner at conferences with Nostriches that now ignore me. Built relationships with people I thought were friends, but have been doing nothing but stabbing me in the back for the last two years.
I organized a Nostr conference on my own with 0 support from those same people. @nprofile…s9fy @nprofile…vg9l @nprofile…9sgs
The only person who showed up was @nprofile…pv9s and we couldn’t even reach the amount of people we could have. Heck, we almost had to cancel the whole thing after a year of work (for a measly budget for the whole thing, $20K) if Bitcoin Beach hadn’t jumped in. It was severely downscaled. Nostr is supposed to be freedom technology.
The only person who semi-helped, was @nprofile…l3ny
I am 1 person.. without help.
We live in a totalitarian police state. The masses are silenced. The nurses, the teachers, they’re paid $175-200 a month in salaries and if anyone talks, the government threatens them and they lose their jobs.
Political activists, indigenous, victims of rape (1 in 4, including myself) and victims of severe human rights violations have no one or where to turn to. We get threatened, beaten up or locked up without a trial or due process for years on end.
Our constitutional court is non functional thanks to our president, our courts are in the hands of the current regime and police and army are underpaid. HRF ignores us, because of some coked up hotel affair with two girls in the space. @nprofile…455v sabotages me any chance she gets.
Me participating in these elections as a political activist almost cost me and my child our lives last weekend. In the hospital, I was taken off IV and left to die. While I felt my pulse plummet. And cried while I begged God to save my child’s life. It was a small group of Bitcoiners that talked me through what to do while I passed out and thought I was breathing my last breath. So forgive me, for not caring what or where my social media presence is. I use it when I feel like it. And that’s for every platform.
We develop our apps as Nostr clients, e-commerce, real estate and a decentralized exchange. @nprofile…h6fg was uninvited from Madeira, we were going to pitch FOSS, thanks to discussing nepotism in a private group.
There is so much centralization and unethical competition in the Bitcoin conference echo chamber/bubble fuck fest, that I skip all of them.
Because I don’t give a flying fuck about popularity.
I’m a toxic maximalist. Four years ago, I started dreaming and ideating with Obi, what a communications layer on top of the bitcoin network would look like, what a true and free internet would look like, how it would all fit together. What actual decentralization in capital markets would look like, after being sabotaged by fake maxis in El Salvador since 2019. Bet you all loooove Chivo and AlphaPoint. And how all of that worked out. So come, try, send your minions, sabotage and do your best, because I will never give up on those who need help and you will have to actually succeed in killing me.
I fight for my people and I fight for my family and my child. And if you don’t like that, you can gfy. 🫶🏽🧡🇸🇷

Bitcoiners only care about making more fiat, people only care when it serves their own self interest, being selfless takes courage and perseverance, it feels like continuously being punished without any hope or guarantee that it will ever pay off. But that’s precisely why being selfless is so powerful—it’s not about guarantees; it’s about principles. True change, true progress, comes from those who dare to act not for immediate reward, but because they believe in something greater than themselves.
In a world consumed by self-interest, choosing to put others first is a quiet revolution. It’s hard, it’s thankless, and it often feels lonely. But it’s also the only way to build something enduring, something real.
The question is: will we have the courage to keep going, even when it feels like the world doesn’t care? Because history is shaped by the few who persevere when it’s easier to give up, who hold the line when it feels like they’re standing alone.
Being selfless might not promise comfort or certainty, but it offers something far greater—a legacy. #note1j02…5e3c

Do you love Me? Alice asked.
No, I don't love you! replied the White Rabbit.
Alice frowned and clasped her hands together as she did whenever she felt hurt.
See? replied the White Rabbit.
Now you're going to start asking yourself what makes you so imperfect and what did you do wrong so that I can't love you at least a little.
You know, that's why I can't love you.
You will not always be loved Alice, there will be days when others will be tired and bored with life, will have their heads in the clouds, and will hurt you.
Because people are like that, they somehow always end up hurting each other's feelings, whether through carelessness, misunderstanding, or conflicts with themselves.
If you don't love yourself, at least a little, if you don't create an armor of self-love and happiness around your heart, the feeble annoyances caused by others will become lethal and will destroy you.
The first time I saw you I made a pact with myself: "I will avoid loving you until you learn to love yourself."

A step further, Uber Eats… they could use some of the driver app functionality, they can take a look at our code on GitHub to see if that’s what they’re looking to build. It’s all open source, so feel free to fork, copy, collaborate, do as you please.

We’re excited to share that we’ve built two Nostr clients, each designed to solve real-world problems in innovative ways! While still in development, they’re ready for you to try out:
• Fuente: A multivendor e-commerce delivery app that functions like Grab or Uber Eats but tailored for local needs. Vendors can list their products on the platform, and customers can easily browse, order, and have items delivered right to their doorstep. Whether it’s groceries, meals, or other essentials, Fuente connects local businesses with their communities, making commerce faster and more accessible.
• Resin: Short for Real Estate Innovation, Resin is the world’s first Bitcoin-powered REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust). It introduces a groundbreaking rent-to-own model, allowing users to start their journey toward homeownership with Bitcoin. At this stage, functionality is limited, but the MVP offers a glimpse of what’s to come. By Q1 next year, we aim to fully launch a platform where people can invest in real estate, secure housing, and build wealth, all while leveraging Bitcoin. Check out the app at Resin.estate and dive into the codebase on GitHub.
We’re thrilled to bring these projects to life on Nostr, combining technology, innovation, and the power of Bitcoin to make a real impact. Explore what we’re building, give us feedback, and join us on this journey:

Looking for a volunteer to lead a solidarity fund for Suriname to defend freedom, democracy, and human dignity.
Here’s why:
• Victims of abuse: Violence against women and teenage girls is rising. With no real support or justice, victims are left to suffer in silence.
• Human rights defenders: Two indigenous activists were brutally executed by officials, exposing the government’s disregard for life and rights. Human rights activists receive no support.
• Political activists: They face death threats and intimidation for standing against corruption.
• Journalists: Threatened, censored, and fearing violence, leaving the truth hidden.
When victims are abandoned, courts serve the corrupt, and the press is silenced, democracy crumbles. This fund will bring critical support and defend those fighting for justice.

Silencing the Press, Silencing Democracy
In Suriname, the government is weaponizing defamation lawsuits, violence, and intimidation to stifle journalists and muzzle free speech. The world stays silent—perhaps we're too small for the global stage to care.
But censorship here is real, and it's growing. As media platforms like Facebook are used to suppress local news outlets, we look to decentralized solutions like Nostr as a lifeline for our democracy. Yet, despite the urgency, we’ve been met with silence from the global community.
Our largest news outlets are under attack, with pages facing deletion. Facebook has become a tool for censorship, with false reports leading to suspended pages. We haven’t received any support, but we refuse to surrender.
Freedom of speech shouldn’t depend on a platform’s whims—or a government’s threats.
Starnieuws, Suriname Herald, SUN News, ABC, Rasonic TV… they all face the same crackdown. The time to act is now.

Definitely, I would also encourage media outlets to convert, since they’re being censored by the current government, the majority of the population lives on Facebook, companies pay for ads monthly, that flows to the US, instead of flowing back to local companies.

Yes, though I’ve said no to requests over the past 6 years from multiple political parties, being an activist, fighting against corruption, I couldn’t say no as our country is reaching an inflection point these next elections. With offshore oil royalties being the target for old corrupt politicians, it’s time for change, with broad support from the private sector and 40% of voters under 35, we actually have a shot at winning and building a better future.
With a population of only ~600K and a GDP of $2.8B, no financial infrastructure or developed capital market. Our country is ideally suited for Bitcoin and Nostr adoption.
Thanks Derek! Appreciate the support 🙏🏽
