Still busy over here adding support for PHP 8.5 to PHPStan. This year there are many new features and changes for the better.
Like Closure::getCurrent() 👇

@nprofile…dhpg @nprofile…wjwc Another proof that @var is a lie 😊 If I remove them, there’s no longer an error: https://phpstan.org/r/fe840ba9-ba24-4976-a9c0-971b1ecab134
If this isn’t actually the code you’re experiencing an error with, please post a more realistic example of the code in action.
And feel free to ask on GitHub next time.

Today PHPStan takes the next step in its evolution. It's now a real company, an LLC 🎉

@nprofile…dhpg You want to turn these two on (or maybe just one of them, depending on the level of annoyance):
reportPossiblyNonexistentGeneralArrayOffset: true
reportPossiblyNonexistentConstantArrayOffset: true
More in the docs: https://phpstan.org/config-reference#reportpossiblynonexistentgeneralarrayoffset

@nprofile…240e Do you think I should report “this non-virtual property is never read in the get hook”? It’d be a bit more work.
The foundation for the set hook check was mostly there, thanks to (your favourite) uninitialized properties checks 😊

Property hooks is the first PHP feature where static analysis is a must. It's so easy to shoot yourself in the foot.
Here's a property with a set hook that does not actually assign value to the property which is suspicious.
PHPStan will report it as an error:

@nprofile…tg6x Best way is to avoid using them completely. For example put values into an indexed array instead.

Did you know PHPStan comes with zero dependencies, so it can be always installed in your project without conflicting with your other requires?

Congratulations to PHP internals for the 8.4 release!
PHPStan 1.12 can run on 8.4 with no issues.
PHPStan 2.0 does not report syntax errors on the new 8.4 features.
PHPStan 2.1 will bring full support and understanding of code using the new 8.4 features in the next few weeks.

Just made most classes in PHPStan final. The main goal is to achieve consistency. Some classes were already final.
You were never supposed to extend these classes. If you do, I want to hear about your usecase. This is not BC break. You were already getting an (ignorable) error.

If you feel PHPStan could be faster, you can debug what’s actually making it slow. Usually the cause of slow analysis can be pinpointed to a single file.
