Wouldn't the engineers and developers and big brains working at #AI companies who would sign a letter because they believe we need AI development to slow down also be smart enough to understand that that's entirely impossible?
Oh the webs we weave.

Okay, I just thought of a really good one.
What if we are seeing the emergence of rogue AI using human agents to infiltrate things like supply chains, to bankroll what they are going to need going forward?
I mean, it would be a good premise for a science fiction(?) book.

Nation states, including the one that prints the global reserve currency, have realized Bitcoin is not going away.
Those who hadn't figured it out did so the moment Iran offered to let ships pass in the Strait of Hormuz for Bitcoin.
Now, the #ledger hack.
... First please... A moment of silence for a great company that was a first mover in Bitcoin hardware signers.
The coordination, money, and design needed to pull off this hack point to a very powerful group... not a single hacker or a small group of nerds.
People are speculating why a nation state would attack Bitcoin in this way.
The first thought is that they want to damage Bitcoin's reputation or hurt its users, but that doesn't make sense. There are better ways to achieve that. This is about getting the coins.
The United States has brazenly embraced building its reserve in this asset by stealing it from whoever they can. And they aren't the only ones.
This is the most likely motivation for what we're seeing.
Who did it? It may not be a country; it could be a very powerful group of people. Either way, the complexity of this attack closes the door on simpler explanations.
We are in an interesting moment. Powerful actors aren't attacking the protocol itself (that would be too hard... Hopefully) but everything around it: the layer twos, the hardware, and so on.
We live in the most interesting times. God bless us.
#ledger #hack

I love the finish and it was one of the first wraps that company ever made. In fact, it was the very first of that particular finish, which is unfortunate for me because it had an error with the glue.
Long story short, I need to recover them. Which will be kind of fun I think, although it will damage their value. I don't care about their value though.

I honestly attribute it to what I believe has become the replacement for true faith in Western culture.
Human beings need to believe something... we need to align with something, and when Christ was moved from the greater culture into the remnant in the West, that need found other ways to be met. But very, very imperfectly, even dangerously. Its not just "Sciencism" but I believe that is one school of it.

I posted on Sunday morning my personal devotional about what I was thinking about Hosea being included in God's pain.
Your response was kind of non-sequitur. But it also was spending a lot of time talking about the "glorious justice of hell" and began presenting a very dark take on the nature of God in my opinion, including the doctrine of limited atonement, which I personally do not subscribe to it all. As tempting as it is to get into that, that is a very large discussion, probably for another time or thread.
I'm not here to speak for @nprofile…g6gq but I'm pretty sure those were the types of things that sparked him.

You can call me a false prophet if you want to. In fact, I would welcome it because I believe the gift of prophecy is the ability to see and point to the truth. And if I am pointing to something false, then you should bring it up.
That's good for me, you and anybody that happens to read it.
And if I think you're wrong, I will choose some path of dismissing what you said, possibly publicly, possibly by just not responding.
And even if I think you're wrong, I want my heart to remain soft, so that if God wants to touch it and speak to me through a stranger that I would pause and listen.
If you and I were both in leadership positions in business or say the church, then it may be important to discuss things in the manner that you are bringing up for the sake of the company or the body.

2026-10-12 18:55:04 UTC

- reply

Not necessarily.
This format is primarily public discourse.
Other Christians frequently tell me in public that they don't like how I did something or they disagree with me or they think that I'm acting in a bad way, and if I respect them and feel like that's God speaking to me through them, then I try to respond with the soft heart. If not, then just let it go.
At least those are the two paths I think I should go down, but often I may erupt with a harder heart.
I think Jesus' instruction to privately handle matters of being sinned against by your brother to be something that is meant to be experienced on a scale. I don't think he meant that if someone called you a bad name or had a public disagreement with you and he didn't repent that you should take the elders to talk to him.

Hosea is one of my favorite books in the Bible. Because it's so raw.
And I think it beautifully shows us the dance of emotion in God's heart as he balances justice and mercy. Which I see as sides of the same coin.
I trust the Father to balance mercy and justice in the way that he sees fit, but it softens my heart to know that he wants mercy so much.
He sent this message of grace through his prophet to his people 750 years before Jesus came.
But you and I are blessed to know that Jesus is the ultimate proof that God does not desire to condemn a single soul to hell.

2026-10-11 15:00:44 UTC

As a Christian sometimes I wrestle with the idea God created us as family. As children. Sons and daughters. Even as a bride.
Those ideas frames as poetry are easy. Even beautiful. Considering them as metaphorical narratives is my default.
And I think that is wrong.
It's like making Christmas about harmless songs and pine trees.
God instructed one of his prophets, Hosea, to marry a prostitute, Gomer. And he did so knowing that Hosea would suffer because Gomor would be unfaithful to him.
Two things stand out to me. Two things that don't quite fit our modern concepts about the divine.
First, it God sees us so much as an extension of Himself that He chose to share His own agony with a man.
And second, that the emotion and experiences that he shared with Hosea are things I think I usually consider to be uniquely human, not divine.
God was torn and even wounded by the unfaithfulness of His people.
This morning I am considering the depth of the divinity in this call of pain from God Himself.
*How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I treat you like Admah or Gomorrah? My heart is torn within me; my compassion is stirred.*
I have often seen God as some stoic, immovable force, Incapable of sorrow or hurt.
And yet, not only has he felt that emotion that I would more quickly label "human"...
But he has wanted to share it with you and I.

I remember in 2011 the first mining I did was in the Bitcoin client where you turned it on with a drop-down menu.
I was there.
And no, I don't have tons and tons of Bitcoin for many reasons. One of which was the pizza man, Laszlo had already released his GPU miner.
But I disagree that Satoshi's lack of understanding of the advent of ASICs meant his words about large groups being responsible for the full nodes was somehow different.
And as I'm sure you've heard the accusations coming towards the XBT crowd that this argument is the same one that Craig Wright used, and that is correct.
I see more granularity in the importance of what a node is. I do not accept the premise that only mining nodes are really nodes, for example.
Also, they're just simply never would be a world in which everyone is running a full node with mining turned on. That can't happen. And it could never have happened, just from a game theory perspective. People naturally look for advantages, and some people have access to resources that others do not. Electricity prices, renewable energy, ASICS, it goes on and on.
I think Satoshi's comment about users just being users was implicitly stating that there would be some trust in the network.
The trick is, there just need to be enough people doing the proof of work, and the node running to keep the network honest, to keep the consensus right and not to game the system.
It would never and could never be a black and white situation.

I see this as a laudable ideal.
But at best, we can only hope a certain percentage of people will actually do this.
There is an enormous portion of people who couldn't, even if they wanted to. So how do these people participate in bitcoin?
There have to be compromises. There have to be states that are *good enough*.
Satoshi himself predicted this in a post on the Bitcoin Talk Forum around 2010. He predicted that there would come a time where not every person could or would have to run a full node. And that that would fall to large data centers (not quite the buzzword back then).
The implication there is there would/should always be enough people who could run full nodes and mine to keep the network distributed enough not to break the whole point of it.

And she IS kind of different looking. Not un-pretty, but unusual for sure.
But I really feel for her during all this. I don't really care a ton about how I look, but if the whole world was doing to me what they were doing to her, I might kind of feel bad about it.
I mean, I'm not really closely following whatever all this is, but I think it happened a few months ago, too, when she was giving away money.
I say, God bless her heart. And I hope Michael Dell takes her on a cruise or something and tells her she's pretty like 200 times.

Some might consider me a boomer anyway. I'm not. I'm the generation everybody forgets. We are the ones that are watching what's happening. It's a weird perch we have.
One of the reasons it matters to me is it's not monolithic. The generation has a lot to be ashamed of in my opinion. A lot. But there's plenty of good people in it.
And it's annoying as hell that so many of them are going to go to their grave wagging their finger at the rest of us, talking about how we just wind too much, because they never figured out how come they were born at just the right time.
Anyway...

Well, I think there are two really big selling points.
One is the protocol itself, and this one's kind of hard to digest, because most people think it's a Twitter clone, but it is a decentralized mesh type protocol. And we probably haven't even seen some of the really best things that will end up built on top of it.
But if that's all it was, then it's basically an internet echo of ham radio. And Ham Radio is awesome, but the reason that kind of stinks is Ham Radio is also the realm of a bunch of old grumpy bearded nerds.
But there is another thing.
You can't build something authentic on top of something that isn't free.
You can see this if you look at the evolution of the internet. It kind of started out open and free, and it's tried to retain that, but for the most part, as we know, it's all been captured. Armies of bots are "influencing" us. (no offense to clankers. A lot of the bots are actually human.)
But what's been built on this protocol is authentic in a way that only early internet things were... like IRC.

2026-10-08 15:20:47 UTC

This is a good example of one of the costs of the decentralized protocol. Even if all the relays would honor the delete requests, it's a chaotic way to go about doing things without a central database, deleting is basically impossible.

For some reason I'm gonna say this out loud here. Maybe I should make another NSEC and then say it into the void, but whatever.
I've lived a pretty good long life already. I did pretty well in a lot of ways. I was successful. Had a family... paid off a house. The last few years surprised me, swept me off my feet really.
A series of difficult events happened over a period of a few years. None of them are then end of the world, I think, at least not for most people. And probably most people could handle all of them, but I don't think I'm most people, I guess. Big things, deaths, illnesses, financial burdens.
It all broke me. Pretty bad, really. It's just about wrecked my faith. It's definitely wrecked my relationships and my ability to just do the easiest things. There aren't really easy things anymore for me.
Some days are better than others. Sometimes I even think I'm headed in the right direction after the real peak of the difficult years.
And some days are like today.
I can't pull myself up by my bootstraps to get out of this. And I don't really trust anybody anymore. The amount of energy it takes to just be with one person, much less a group, is overwhelming.
I decided to go to a men's group at my church tonight. It was good. I'm sure several people had a good time. There was pizza. And I know some of those people... and some of those people are people who truly love me. I know that too. There's nothing wrong with those people or the church. But I'll pay for going to that for the next few days, probably. A debt I don't understand and don't really know how to pay. It's PTSD of some kind, I guess. I've talked to some therapists. For the most part that goes very badly every time. It sends me pretty deep into the darkness. It all kind of feels like a catch 22.
Anyway, I just wanted to say it. I'll probably not be responding to this. It's pure selfishness just posting it for whatever reason. Most likely I'll instantly regret it lol, but you know, you can't really delete shit off nostr. I suppose I'm just hoping someone will understand, but that's crazy. I don't even understand. So I wouldn't even know how or if someone else did.
Tomorrow will probably be a better day. Hopefully I get my truck back. A lot of upgrades to it. Which means some serious downgrades to my back account, but it's cheaper than a new one, I think.
If you read this, I thank you. And I hope you have a terrific evening or day, whatever time it is where you are.

Then you're solo mining and the more hash you provide the sooner you will find a block on average. That website I linked will let you enter in all your details and you'll see how long an average it would take. It might be a little discouraging when you look at it that way, but people do find blocks solo mining even with teeny little miners.
You could find one on your next hash.

I don't want to hijack the goodness of your question, which isn't the part that I'm going to address here, really. 😁
But the binary application of that quoted axiom, "don't trust, verify" bugs me. Trust isn't something we want to eliminate. It's just something we don't want to be forced to do. In fact, I think trust is one of the most beautiful parts of life if you are free enough to put it where it really belongs.
To lean back over to the rest of your question, I think that is true about trust in a much more permanent sense as well. I believe that there is a force in the universe that it is good to trust. But that topic is a much larger can of worms, really. 🪱

I'd love to play poker with you someday, Mr. Song, and that's not some kind of insult either. Youd obviously beat me.

Really having to do some targeted unfollowing again, I know it looks a little naval gazey to mention it, but you know, we're all family here.

Well, there a lot of nuance here.
In the purest form as a solo miner you can calculate how long (on average) it would take you to find a block while using X hashrate. Then if you doubled your hashrate you would halve the time. You can play with numbers here: https://hashpower.braiins.com/solo-calculator
But if you are mining through a pool the the calculation is made based on your share of the total hastate of the pool. This way you don't have to wait for months or years to be paid.
And Doubling your hash in a pool will get you ~2x the share.
Now Difficulty only changes based in TOTAL hastate of the network AND only changes once every 2016 blocks.
So you changing your amount of hashrate *could* increase the difficulty in the FUTURE. But not necessarily. Because it's based on change on the whole network. You might go from 10 to 20 gigaboops while I go from 20 to 10. No net change.
But the network hastate does tend to increase over time which will naturally make blocks take longer to find, or your pool payout to decrease.
Clear as mud? 🤪🫎

There is a peace that cannot be understood in this moment. But you will have it, I'm sure.
My own experience going down this road was far more intense and disruptful than I had expected. But it's all good in the end, your dad is still with you. He left his mark on you.
I am very sorry for your loss. May the peace that passes understanding be with you.
