This entire world is fucked up beyond repair. I don't even feel like trying anymore. Fuck this shit. All of it. Worst case there's an easy way out.

I honestly don't understand why people copy-paste walls of slop instead of saying things concisely in their own words. If I wanted to talk to a slopmachine, I wouldn't use a meat proxy for it.
It makes me irrationally angry that people think it's acceptable to inflict this on others. If they can't be bothered to write it, why should I be bothered to read it? I treat it as basically spam.

2026-09-30 15:45:52 UTC

And again I have proof (not that I needed it) that spending more time understanding a problem and root causes actually saves time because we fix the right thing in the right way.
People should try this more often. Don't jump into implementing/fixing based on the first idea. Give yourself a set amount of time and keep going. Don't make a decision before that time elapsed. Learn to tolerate the "problem not yet solved" discomfort.

Do people who stay on Twitter even realize that the algorithm shadow-bans dissenting views, which is why dissenting views can only be seen on platforms that don't have algorithms?
I was shadow-banned there. I documented it extensively. So be careful when you compare the communities.
What you're actually comparing is:
1) What the algorithm allows your to see + posts by people who prefer echo chambers.
2) An actual community with no algorithm to insulate you from the real world.

Those who value speed over quality will inevitably see quality drop.
LLMs bring speed that makes reviews, design and just *thinking* about what you're doing very slow in comparison to the code generation. Therefore, you'll take shortcuts to keep up. Therefore, quality will drop.
Guardrails discussions are a red herring. You want quality, but the biggest bottleneck was always the thinking, and the many decisions that you made along the way. Now you delegate these decisions to chance.

Honestly, all this LLM hype is making me not want to speak at any conferences. When a third of all content is LLM garbage, it makes me question my sanity and lose hope in humanity. That's the inverse of what I hope to get in exchange for donating my time.
I think the bubble needs to pop before these events become bearable again. Every few years there's a new annoying hype, but this time it's so much worse.
I have one last commitment for this summer and then I'll be taking a long break.

I upgraded tens of millions of lines of code in my career, maybe more, and still some people treat me like I have no idea what I'm talking about. I mean, I can accurately identify most of a project's pain points just by perusing the code for an hour.
I wish people had the reflex to first assume others are competent, and then be proven wrong, instead of assuming others know nothing and having them waste time "proving" it before hearing them out.

2025-12-24 16:58:29 UTC

Increasing the birthrate of white people is part of the Ku Klux Klan oath and every other supremacist organization. So whenever you hear someone talking about how *other* people are outbreeding *us* and how *we* must do something about it, this is exactly the kind of fire they're stoking. It's not by accident. It's by design. Tell them that they sound exactly like a Klan member.

Looks like PRs (and other contributions) written by LLMs are causing damage everywhere. I invite OSS projects to prohibit LLMs as a policy. Just treat everything that comes out of LLMs as invalid and be done with it.
Giving people the benefit of the doubt and then seeing such entitled and bad faith behavior is exhausting. I'm sure maintainers have better things to do than politely sift though towering piles of garbage.

We don't collect IBM ESA data, only IBM i because it's one we support. The latter accounted for 2.54% of systems running PHP apps according to last year's survey.
We used to ship 32bit PHP with older Zend Server. I don't know how much of that is in the wild still.
Not sure whether one can run PHP on IBM ESA. Maybe @nprofile…uv2l knows more on this topic.

Almost every day, I see microservices that should have definitely not been microservices. Almost every time, it's a big ball of mud with extra complexity.
You can't just split things into random smaller things, slap HTTP in between and call it architecture. In almost every case, cleaning up a monolith would have yielded better outcomes.
