Been going through some stuff on Coursera lately -- more playing with TensorFlow, but Pytorch has come up. It gets a little more into the weeds (the weeds of matrix multiplication and derivatives) but it's handy if you wanna get a bit deeper on matters. Andrew Ng does a few courses through Stamford and he's pretty thorough. Has a good few labs in Jupyter notebooks, so you have good code examples you can draw from right there.

It's nice to just ask for the metrics I want and design features I want instead of messing with tradingview widgets to still have a lot of visual bloat.
My real goal I'm ruining through though is a more dynamic dashboard that considers a broader set of macro and geopolitical things, but to avoid noise displays only those above a certain level of 'interesting' to be dynamically assessed.
Obviously calibrating what counts as interesting is the hard part.

Could be. Though that depends on intent. You can also use opencode to put metrics you otherwise scan around for all in one place with custom dashboarding to save screen time. And you can speak rather than type.
But initially yea, you're probably going to put more time in.

I can't help but recall back to high school math, asking the teacher when we'd use some of the algebra stuff like matrix multiplication.
I know it was the early 2000's, but why couldn't she just SAY that it's the basis of neural networks and will be ubiquitous in 20 years?
Now I'm relearning all the stuff I barely slogged through...
But really, while I found uses for a lot of other algebra before, I didn't really think the matrices were gonna come back. Just when you think you've ESCAPED the matrix...

If you're always buying, then you always have some coins you can sell at a loss unless we're at ATH.
Now, turning that into a system that works is up to you...but if we all did it to the extent that we started offsetting OTHER capital gains, they might give us our de minimis after all. Or, you know, just add in a wash sale rule.

Hopefully the point is received that hardware wallets manufacturing is a juicy target.
You can take two approaches to that: use a hardware wallet that is defensive as all hell when it comes to their manufacturing to a point of seeming deranged. And hope they don't make one mistake.
Or, use general purpose computing equipment. Like Satoshi did.
I'm even concerned about seedsigners these days on the raspi zero's. They are working on an ESP32 build though which is hopeful enough. I also just think airgapped laptops using keys you've rolled dice to generate are hard to beat. Theoretically you could even run one older than Bitcoin (might need an older version of T(A)ILS for this or a custom live Linux usb/disk), though that proposition is getting harder and harder with time.

I don't think I can get behind Omarchy as another systemd based distro, but I'm loving Omalauncher on my phone. Just submitted my first widget to their store to provide a search bar right on the home screen, with a selection of search engines, given that the launcher doesn't have the native google search bar that Android's stock launcher has.
Not having nano is a nice touch though -- it'd be annoying to have something open in nano that by all rights should be opening in vim (though admittedly, on a phone screen nano can make more sense than vim, as the keys get bothersome without a keyboard).

@nprofile…9kky has given me a bunch more reason to stare at my phone way too much, at least for awhile, by putting Omalauncher ( https://github.com/SimonSchubert/omalauncher ) in front of my face.
This is pretty sweet, especially for someone who inadvertently got an OEM locked phone and can't install Graphene (though it works just fine on Graphene too).
So easy to make use of the agentic AI that I accidentally created a widget last night, using Laguna S 2.1 (free) to replace the search bar that the stock Android launcher has.
Didn't realize how much I needed a koi pond on my home screen. Or a terminal (though I had an inkling).
Also works in landscape mode 🤯.
I do ALMOST wish it pulled my icons over from my stock launcher because I'm taking quite awhile to pull those onto the screen but it's absolutely worth it. I probably didn't need them all on the main screen anyway. I'm just realizing I don't know some of the app names so much as their location/icon 😃.

I just asked Omalauncher what it'd take to build a widget to search using the default browser and default search engine after noticing Omalauncher gets rid of the google search bar.
Using Laguna (free) while rate limited it had a new widget ready and live in 15 minutes.
The future is now.

This is what I think we expect to see as merchants wake up. The idea that WE are asking THEM to make a decision that makes a heck of a lot more sense for them than it does for us is one of those things that's always a little silly. If I have filthy fiat, and they'll accept it, it makes way more sense to get rid of it before it is further devalued. If they take credit cards, it makes sense to me to get rewards (though arguably there's privacy I give up in this process too, so it's less clear cut). They're the ones who have every incentive to get around credit card fees; I'm not the one being charged those.
Always makes me a little amused if a merchant says "sorry, no" because it's very much something I'm asking if I can do them a favor. Sort of like "Do you have a place you'd like me to wipe my feet before I come into your space?"
Nice you found one that is waking up a bit.

I just realized, you can absolutely run Hermes on a phone.
The privacy aspect is pretty awful perhaps (though you could use a more privacy preserving provider, like Maple or PPQ), but you can totally do things like ask it to monitor for gps location and then pull up information for the area you're in based on what you want updates on.
That could be interesting, and having the harness on the phone itself is a lot more efficient than trying to pipe that data back to a remotely running desktop, raspi, or whatever.
Looks like there could be interesting ways of linking the copy locally to the copy at home.
Anyone else put the harness on the phone itself? I usually see people talking in telegram, signal, or Whitenoise, but haven't run across anyone playing with the harness right on the phone. If so, anything cool of note? If not, is it way more dangerous than i'm giving credit? Thoughts?

I think people spend a lot of time underestimating what the resistance can do. Underestimating people whose back is against the wall and who have generations if not centuries of practice in living under the pressure of foreign rule is a mistake some have made before.
But yes, we do know that Likud has in the past funded Hamas; this is a matter of public record. This doesn't, however, seem to be a matter of puppeteering; they were just interference because at the time it was a way to divide the resistance when the PLO was still a force to contend with.
They have an active weapons production industry, using munitions they salvage from the unexploded ordnance that they produce in tunnels. I get people expect that getting one over on the IOF and the security apparatus of the occupation would be in impossibly difficult thing. I suspect not enough people are familiar with the regular stream of their own video footage the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, or for that matter the footage of Saraya Al-Quds and Hezbollah. Jonelmer on twitter had a video just the other day featuring Yahya Sinwar in Rafah days before his assassination https://x.com/jonelmer/status/2107585433500790882?s=20/.
While you're at it, check out the Ken Burns docuseries on the Vietnam War. Anticolonial guerilla resistance has a way of working even when everything else says it shouldn't.
I could do without all the leftism around it. Very glad we have voices like Saif's to bring a bit of balance. And for what it's worth many of the particularly devout are more in line with market principles. Not terribly surprising, as Islam does have a lot of regard for upright behavior in honest market environments, hence prohibitions on Riba, gambling, insurance, derivatives, etc.
Things are pretty bleak but I think the days of the attack dog that gets away with everything that is the entity are numbered. They may be totally cut down to size but somehow survive as a multinational state, or they may fall altogether. I do have my doubts about how well they can live alongside each other afterward -- though Rwanda perhaps offers a bit of hope, even if it's not all sunshine and rainbows. I've definitely seen some Jews with a will to learn to coexist but you're hard pressed to get people to look past the trauma. To say nothing of just how much was stolen.
The history of the theft of land and everything in Palestine is tragic, and it does predate even the first aliyah. Under Ottoman rule, in 1858 they required that land be registered with the state for clear titling and tax. For a variety of somewhat complex reasons (some of which were around conscription to the foreign Turkic wars), it resulted in non-Muslims registering more land, as Muslims would end up just still living on the land to work it. This is why you hear so much about how "Israelis didn't steal land, they bought it." It's often true that it did start this way, though clearly they've taken far more in the time since. The issue is that while non-Muslims owned the land prior, it was only at this event that they were suddenly pushed off the land.
This show's worthwhile for that pre-invasion history: https://fountain.fm/show/prl4eCKyyIgs6hXqjChR
Anyway, yea. There may well have been some intrigue. I won't pretend to know every bit of spycraft and cloak and dagger deal that goes on. But I do think just calling it a false flag is at the very least one dimensional.

I think some of the 'user friendly' clients, with Primal being the worst offender, have confused the crap out of people about relays by tucking them away instead of just encouraging some basic education.
This is my broken record rant though as user friendliness is the number one plague on most software. It's how the world went from shit that works (Slackware) to a tangled mess of shit in the land of Debian, Redhat, and the other 'easy' systems that work until they don't, when people just start talking about doing reinstalls because you can't rely on upstream docs anymore and the dependency chains are in a knot and for some reason half of the configuration is handled in binary files.
I'm incredibly grateful to @nprofile…vhl6 and co. for having the sanest relay config out of any client I've come across, with clarification as well as specific roles able to be set by users, rather than treating users like they can't be trusted with their own devices.
I get that most users are retarded. But if you keep treating them that way it WILL be a self fulfilling prophecy.
Some of this is getting made moot because even the tangled messes can be delved by the LLM's and sorted out. But I suspect those dealing with them are more likely to spend more tokens doing so.

2026-10-06 16:47:36 UTC

@nprofile…uh0e regarding inflating the debt away, does it not make sense to first let rates go high in a crisis, so that the treasury can buy up debt at pennies on the dollar, in advance of the Fed monetizing the newly issued debt, putting a bid under it at lower rates than what was bought back?
Seems like Warsh and Bessent may be two hands of the same actor if this is the case.
Also, how much even needs to be broadly inflationary? If you can instigate a deleveraging event in the private (or better yet, offshore) banking system, can you not just have the Fed's newly printed money replacing the private sector deposits, being, as @nprofile…ttc0 puts it, antideflationary rather than inflationary, as QE was?
Sure blown up banks will sell their treasuries, but there's a LOT of other collateral in repo that the treasury could be more than happy to let die.
If anyone can pull this off I have to assume it's Bessent. Curious if you see a hole in this. Cheers on the great show as always.

You don't get to build on decades of AI research and building and then act like your little inflection point makes you any sort of fucking authority. Thanks for your little contribution. If you don't want to take it further, you're free to fuck off.

When all the code is written by AI, does that mean there won't be any cypherpunks left? Or do we need to ask Eric Hughes to amend the manifesto?

GM
Got Thoth (my Hermes-Agent) setting up Whitenoise today. Decided that even with terminal access off on IRC I think I'd be more comfortable with a more controlled environment rather than just hope an ircop doesn't just play games with nickserv and have access to my bot because they managed to get my name.
Happy to report that so far this seems easier than even installing and using Whitenoise myself (though that wasn't too hard either -- just had to avoid the pitfall of using my existing npub with it).

I understand why people who would never dare use liquid or Cashu would turn their nose up at XMR.
Not quite sure why people into custody and shitcoins otherwise though take issue with it.
It's definitely less of a shitcoin than LBTC, if that's saying anything (it's not though).

Actually getting to pay for @nprofile…en87 's book was harder than getting copies of it in multiple formats.

It's always been about antisemitism. Push Jews out of the countries that didn't want them, and into the hands of a regime that was created to sew discord in West Asia, first to help topple the Ottoman Empire, and left there to ensure it stayed toppled (and lesser so to offset the millenia-old Persian Empire which, as we're seeing still has some fight left in it).
Maritime empires can project power far and wide thanks to their fleet of ships (at this point both air and sea). But a strong land based empire is always a rival that makes things difficult for them as the logistics of land empires allows for much more rapid movement of resources.
Britain's been fighting Russia on this basis for 500 years. It's why they resorted to the Opium Wars in China, because they were otherwise against the wall. And it's why they, and the US under their direction (since Wilson) have done the same in West Asia, particularly given both its impact on oil production and trade routes.
It's never been a religious war. But like most wars religion is absolutely a way to recruit and drum up cannon fodder. And leaving no safe space for deserters is a great way to keep your troops brainwashed and compliant.
It's part of why I really can't get behind a lot of the Jew hatred. I TOTALLY understand why Palestinians don't want to hear about how it's not all Jews and that people should live in peace. The trauma they've been subjected to by people in the name of this religion over the last century makes them the last people I have interest in lecturing. But from the outside, there is room to welcome dissenting Jewish voices (which get silenced in the occupied territory) rather than simply cast them all together.
A rabbi I lived with was the biggest catalyst for me taking seriously the situation in Palestine. It's important to remember that religion and cultural identity, despite often being used as a rhetorical tool to foment war and consolidate power, do not exist primarily for this purpose, any more than hair on your head exists so that you can be dragged by it.

Equity investing I think will always have some sort of a place. However, when the companies out there are all accepting melting ice cubes and many even store their treasuries in it, it's hard to find one that's worthwhile (especially when the sound money is monetizing such that it returns better over the long term than even the best companies can).
The thing about investing though, is that it was never something anyone should have HAD to do to avoid being robbed. It was something you did to make more money, by funding new businesses. Using your stored labor to give them the ability to turn that potential back into kinetic energy to fuel the engine of the economy.
When everyone has to invest just to avoid losing everything, it's because everyone's being robbed. Simply holding money should also appreciate in value, as the most broad investment of all: holding the lubrication that all enterprises make use of to conduct business. If it doesn't, the money is broken.

Purity in general isn't something that ever really exists in the world. Hence the little dots within the yin and yang.
You get a natural state of capitalism and some violence.
Communism seeks to eradicate capitalism, replacing it with total domination by violence.
